A Teacher's Bequest
MAY 1971

A bond of mutual esteem between the Dartmouth Medical School and a longtime employee has been acknowledged in a recent bequest. The will of Eleanor Elizabeth Hoag, who died October 27, 1970, at the age of 60, directed that one-half of the residue of her estate "be used for the benefit of the Dartmouth Medical School as the dean of that school may direct."

Miss Hoag was first employed in the Department of Pathology in 1943. In 1956 she transferred to the Department of Microbiology and Was an instructor in that department until 1968. At that time she became a teaching laboratory supervisor, a post she held at the time of her death.

A memorial resolution adopted by the faculty of the Dartmouth Medical School after Miss Hoag's death said: "She possessed in abundance the old virtues of honesty, reliability and courage in the face of adversity. With a quiet smile she always rose to the challenge of change." The resolution, which also expressed recognition of Miss Hoag's outstanding contributions to teaching, has been placed in the official record of the school.
