OCTOBER 1972 JAMES F. MALLEY, DONALD A. CHENEY

Donald A. Cheney is the new Treasurer of 1911, and will carry on the good work of Bendy Griswold. Please note his address at the top of this column. Also please note the new address of your Secretary JimMalley at the top of this column.

A memorial service was held for Brad.Patten at the Episcopal Church of the Messiah, Woods Hole, Mass., July 19. 1911 was represented by Polly Clark, ChuckBush, Henry Smith and Ken Clark. It was a simple, short, lovely service. His ashes rest in the cemetery behind the church. Barbara writes that their daughter was married there so the church holds happy as well as sad memories.

Chuck Bush, the oldest living member of 1911, impressed Ken Clark no end. He picked up Ken at the Hyannis Airport and drove him to and from Woods Hole on July 19. He drives a car like a professional, handles all repair work around the house, even plumbing; has a complete workshop; and appreciates the scenery especially when a pretty hitch-hiker decorates it.

Troy Parker sent a copy of the Rapid City (South Dakota) Journal "Flood Edition" full of pictures of the devastation caused by the flood of June 9. Troy and Janet were sitting on their porch watching the two gathering storms come together over their heads. They live in Hill City, 23 miles south of Rapid City and seven miles west of Keystone, the other destroyed town. The next morning they found some of their partition fences washed away and a barn in their front yard, washed down from above about half a mile. We are happy they escaped without serious loss or damage.

John Learoyd and his son Jack, visiting him on vacation, drove up to Hanover the last of July, visiting "Wee" Kimball on his way up and your Secretary on the way home. He looked fine and drove down from Hanover himself.

Dutch Irwin expressed appreciation for the reference to Duke Dunning's inimitable monologues in the "Norski" dialect of his native state. He roomed two doors from "Duke" in Massachusetts Hall.

Henry J. (Jinks) Morton has settled at 1350 South West Orinda Way, Portland, Oregon 97225. Pencil in his new address on the back of the December 1, 1971 Class roster.

Vail Applegate, acknowledging birthday greetings, sent a card showing Hotel Miramar in Vina del Mar, Chile, where they stayed 20 years ago on their long tour of South America.

Mert Wilson and Alice spent June on a trip to California and got out to Hawaii to see his first great grandchild.

True Dudley attended the World Convention of the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International at San Francisco last summer.

Harold Burtt reports a pleasant experience with the Internal Revenue Service: He itemized his deductions and paid accordingly. Then the I.R.S. figured that he would have done better with the standard deduction and sent him $24. This sort of changes one's philosophy about taxation, at least temporarily.

Last year we celebrated the marriage of a classmate, Mert Wilson. This year's kudo goes to Dutch Waterbury who attended Alumni College in Hanover. He is writing an historical novel around Samson Occom and an absconding paymaster in the British Army of 1812 who built a mansion in Oriskany.

Don Cheney's wife Fanny has made communion bread for the Park Lake Presbyterian Church in Orlando since 1930. Don has been in charge of serving communion for many, many years. They were both honored in a Bulletin last spring.
