Some years ago, your present secretary acquired the habit of perusing the class notes of earlier classes. It was an interesting experience, notably the expanding part taken by wives (or families) in news gathering. The results were mighty interesting. '08 seems to have reached that honored estate. Of 12 news items, eight have been submitted by widows or sons and daughters.
Word has been received of the death of Leon Woodward on March 11 of complications following serious injuries from a fall. A complete obituary will be found on another page of this or of a later number. The Class here offers a sincere sympathy to his sons, Phil and Leon A. Jr.
Gertrude Workman (Mrs. Walter F.)Furman died on March 17, at Princeton Hospital after a long progressive illness and but one week of agony in the hospital. A graduate of Stanford University, Gertrude had a distinguished career on the stage and in stock. Singularly, her brother Thomas died in Los Angeles the following day, March 18. Your secretary conveys to Walter the sincere sympathy of every member of the Class. He can be reached at 59 Scott Lane, Princeton. N.J. 08540. Martha (Mrs.George B.) Fine writes from her wheel chair, the story of her stroke a year ago and the remarkable recovery she is making. Her handwriting is uniformly clear, though she draws each letter slowly. Thus there is real warmth in her closing line, "Greetings to the Class of '08". Thank you, Martha, and good wishes.
Mrs. Barbara Adams, daughter of Esther Blanchard, keeps us informed. Esther's mind was affected by her recent illness. Her memory is poor. She gets confused readily. Our wishes and hopes are all for her recovery. Margaret (Mrs. Mort) Hull reports, "Well and active." Our thanks for the cordial greetings from Charlie Walker,Porter Lowe, S.S. Rutherford and Abigail (Mrs. Harold H.) Snow.
Dorothy (Mrs. George E.) Squier has changed her address to be near her two sons and families, as well as her step-son Bill Squier '40. Her address is 1322 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford, Conn., 06108. That's Connecticut's gain, Vermont's loss. Responses have been trickling in re attendance at our 61th in June of 1973. They help a lot initially.
