Only a short skip separates June from September and resumption of our '22 class notes.

Most thrilling report of the summer was the gratifying result of Dartmouth's 59th annual Alumni Fund. With the warmest thanks to Spenny Smith and the '22 corps of Class Agents, including Memorial Gifts Chairman Bob Clark, the Class made a highly creditable contribution to the Fund. Two hundred and one donors including 31 Memorial Gifts contributed $28,504.

Cliff Jordan, Executive Secretary of the Fund Committee, nicely summed up '22's performance in a note to Spenny: "I want to express again the very grateful thanks of the Fund Committee and the College for the really tremendous job you did this year as Head Agent for 1922. Certainly the record speaks well, especially coming off the marvelous job done in your 50th Reunion Year."

That says it all, except to add the emphatic thanks of the Class to all classmates and memorial donors who continued to demonstrate their affection for Dartmouth.

The Class likewise delights in saluting JackDodd, Dartmouth Trustee Emeritus, who was honored by the College during Reunion Week, June 10-17. A silver replica of the Wentworth Bowl was presented to Jack in recognition of his dedication to the College, his community activities. and his impressive business career. And while joint ownership may not always be advantageous, Fran Dodd certainly owns half of this honor.

Bob and Grace Clark, Max and Grace Kenyon attended the Post-50th Reunion held annually for classes out more than 50 years. Also, about this time June 11-14, Bill and Trudy Bullen, Jackand Fran Dodd, Carroll and Nan Dwight, AllieHoyt, Ike and Harriott Miller, Len and Margaret Morrissey, and Louise Olsen tried and sometimes succeeded in getting together for some very pleasant meetings.

When and if you read this sculptured script, it may be too late to call Ike Miller (802-785-2012) to make your reservation at Howard Johnson's White River Motel for Friday and Saturday nights, October 12-13, the Penn game weekend. It depends upon when you see these notes and whether Ike has any reservations left. But if you are coming to town only for the game itself or if you are fortunate enough to live in Hanover's sylvan environment, you can still join the Class at its pre-game luncheon beginning about 11 a.m. October 13, in the Drake Room at Hopkins Center. And you might want to stay for the class dinner that evening at the Hanover Inn.

Room reservations for the Yale game weekend, November 2-3, may still be available, though on a strictly limited basis. Ike will know. Again, '22s pre-game luncheon November 3, will fill the Drake Room and dinner that evening will also be at the Hanover Inn.

No reservations are necessary for the pre-game luncheons, but don't delay in getting there well before noon if you expect to eat. Reservations for either or both the post-game dinners at the Inn will be necessary. So if you plan to come to dinner - and we hope you do - please notify Ike. The one exception to this request is the assumption that classmates staying at Howard Johnson's for either or both of these weekends will attend the class dinners on the respective Saturday evenings. So, if you. are staying at H.J.'s there will be no need to notify Ike regarding a Saturday evening dinner unless, you prefer to be an antisocial loner.

Disturbing reports are altogether much too numerous this month. Among classmates hospitalized, convalescing, or recently recovered are Harry Bruckner, John McKoan, Clark Bristol, George Weed, and Lewis Dettenborn. And among class wives - Vi Kenyon and Rhoda Fredericks. Steve Kenyon's Newsletter has told or will tell more concerning each of these fine people. All classmates hope earnestly for complete and satisfactory recovery of every one of them.

Still more sad news, and rarely has it been more so. Chuck Canfield's obituary was in the July issue and obituaries for Wes Nutten, Jim Nelson, and Dick Uvermore will appear in this issue, and to make the report even more saddening, the Class has most recently lost Ralph Adams, Bob Clark, and Nick Carter. Their obituaries will appear in a later issue. The hill winds know their names.

Finally, your scribbler cannot finish this epistle without a note of sincere appreciation to Charles E. Widmayer '30 upon his retirement as editor of the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine. He has always been competent, cordial and cooperative in everything concerning '22. May he and his good wife Lari thoroughly enjoy many happy years ahead. Meanwhile, we welcome Dennis A. Dinan '61 as the new editor and hope he too will share Charlie's consideration for the last, but certainly not the least, of Dartmouth's small classes.

See you at the games, we hope.
