Two summer events to report. The Western Reunion at Ojai Valley drew 18, and because this is a manageable roster for inclusion within the limits of the Magazine, we'll name them: the Clarks, Jacobs, Tangemans, Rodis, Tunnicliffs, Leslies, Stewarts, Bob Marr, Henryta Glasgow, and from New York, Ellie and John French.
Then the July Eastern Reunion at Dot and Rollie Booma's in Swampscott with an attendance of 102. This was just great and another evidence of their great affection for the Class. As an expression of our affection for them, JohnFrench presented them with a "With Love" pewter bowl. Carl Haffenreffer received a Class of 1930 Award in recognition of his outstanding college and public service. Carl has recently been named president of the R.I. Society for the Prevention of Blindness. Louise and Bob Keene who have built a home in Guanajuato, Mexico, were on hand. They expect to visit New England occasionally, but for reasons of climate, cost and health can now be classified as residents.
Hank Wood retired from W.T. Grant last year, and Jean and he will continue to live in St. Johnsbury. Bob Whittlesey presumably retired from Little Brown on August 31 and Margaret from her job as art librarian at Wellesley College. They will be found henceforth at 16 Tupelo Road, South Yarmouth, Mass. Jack Wooster is enjoying his retirement by going into a family wholesale hardware operation only ten minutes from his home (Upper Montclair). Son John is with McKinsey and Co., Tom with Connecticut General, and Dick '71 graduated in June from Stanford Business School. Leona Telling writes that John is a salesman for Bradford-White Corp. in Pittsburgh and that John 111 is a New York ond salesman, Kathryn in the field of speech and hearing, and Diana working in Mayor Lindsay's office.
Bob Relyea expects to retire soon and plans to join the already sizeable Florida contingent. Chic Sherburne is a partner with Bacon Whipple & Co. "diligently working in the caverns of Wall Street." but during the summer gets away to Thimble Farm, Pine Orchard, Conn. John Taylor (Johnstown, Pa.) lists radio W3MIM, hunting, target shooting, painting, and leather work among his hobbies. John Jr. specializes in general surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Montgomery, and Robert works with Univac in Washington.
Merit White heads the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Massachusetts and usually spends a couple of months in Europe each summer, partly to visit Jarmila's relatives in Bratislava. Their daughter Ellen must be pretty close to the youngest amongst us (April 1968).
Ted Wolf is on the road again leading seminars on storekeeping and inventory control in Amsterdam, Manchester, London, and Dublin. He made headlines (MsMatch to Hatcher) in June by engaging the woman's tennis champion of Virginia Beach in a Riggs-type racket duel. Losing graciously, 6-4, 6-1, he was quoted as saying "I had a good excuse for losing. She played better than I did."
In June, the Condons' younger son Harrison III was married to Leslie Ann White at Marshfield Hills, Mass. Harry Casler wants it made clear that the new directory omitted part of his address. The Enniskeane where they reside is in County Cork. A card from Gwen and DickBowlen from Zermatt indicated that they expected to spend about a week in that lovely part of Ireland.
Pat O'Brien "retired five years ago and moved to Delray Beach. My days are filled with gardening, swimming, and civic affairs. Plan to resign from our local Playhouse to resume an interest in painting. We will have our daughter living with us this year, but the other three children are scattered to such diverse cities as Houston, New Haven, and Boston."
Bill Wilson (San Marino, Calif.) "Son Eric teaching at Pomona College. Older daughter September lives in Santa Barbara and has two children. Younger daughter April is a Ph.D. candidate at University of Chicago Divinity School. My golf handicap has continued to rise ever since I left Hanover."
Charlie Rauch is still a trustee and committee member of Connecticut Savings Bank. They spend a great many weeks each year at their house at St. Herberts in the eastern Adirondacks.
Horst Orbanowski, vice president of Engineering, Kent Orban Co., in Wayne, N.J., says he is living a rather conservative life and is not intending to retire in the near future. Son Peter '66 received his masters in Engineering Mechanics at the University of Pennsylvania, did work towards a Ph.D. at Brooklyn Polytech, and then obtained a Business Administration Masters at the University of Connecticut.
