well, another lovely New England summer has come and gone. The first few weeks of September bought those cool evenings that remind one of bonfires and parties (and also that Old Man Winter is poised and waiting).

First things first. I know I speak for all the Class in congratulating John Clarke for the great success the Class obtained in the annual Alumni Fund. Through his efforts and those of his many agents and assistants the Class had the second highest combined percentage achievement in the College.

Around the horn with the Class:

Charlie Budd enjoys the life of an orthopedic surgeon with the U.S. Navy. Last word we had was that he and Susan were expecting twins (numbers 3 and 4) and looking for at least one daughter. Charlie will be released from the service next spring and is looking forward to private practice.

Busy at the Cleveland Clinic is Russell Hardy who is a staff neurosurgeon. Judy helped him survive his residency last spring.

Helping run the country's affairs from Wall Street is Colin Harley who was made a partner at Davis, Polk and Wardwell, one of the larger firms. (More lawyers there than people here in Rochester). According to Colin and Emilia, it beats "Q 36 quick" over and over.

Another giant in the legal profession is JimHale who operates in Minneapolis with the firm of Faegre & Bensen. Guess you all know Jim did some clerking for the U.S. Supreme Court before the days of Watergate. Jim and Sharon are happy to be back home in the Midwest.

Dave Walsh is a consultant in dealer management problems for General Motors (Chevrolet Motor Division). He and Emmy are in the Seattle area.

His note says (concerning news) "none since the 10th." I'm not sure he means kids or news. It's been a long time between cookies, Emmy.

Also keeping General Motors in the green is Hal Deane who is District Manager of the Cadillac Motor Division somewhere in North Carolina. Hal and Fran write that they've fallen in love with "this remarkable and new South ... and enjoying the outdoor climate."

Keeping taps on the energy crisis is PeteHartley. Peter and Carolyn have been in Tyler, Texas, since 1967, where he toils for Exxon Chemical Co. as a technical sales representative. Last news from Peter and Carolyn announced the arrival of Graham Chambers Hartley.

Having been rescued from the DDA pit a number of years ago, Andy Zigelis dropped out of sight. He's been discovered in Madison, N.J. where he is a college professor in the Department of German and Russian at Drew University.

Bob Bannerman still is active with the Department of State, and he and Claire now find themselves in Vietnam, where Bob is a Regional Security Officer with the American Embassy.

Checking out the bugs in Warsaw is JackSeymour, who is with the U.S. Foreign Service and assigned to the American Embassy. Wife Marshell and their two sons have moved with Jack to Poland for the two to three year assignment.

Anyone passing through Madrid is invited to look up Roy and Liz Usborne. Roy functions as a lieutenant commander for Uncle Sam's Navy and his task is the training and advising of the Spanish Navy. (There go all your Spanish Navy jokes). The Usbornes have been in Spain over a year and have enjoyed the experience, complete with skiing in Granada.

Next month we'll feature some more lost brothers.

My Dartmouth duties provided a lunch with AlCook who is heading up the job placement portion of the Dartmouth Plan. Anyone who is interested in joining the plan and providing assistance to the Dartmouth undergraduates, give Al a call in Hanover at the College Secretary's office.

Time to test out the hip flask and make certain it's ready for the season. Keep in touch.

The frozen girdled earth, Norway's NorthCape, was the site of a chance shipboardmeeting for '62s Joe and Harriett Sackettand Frank and Joan Tepper of 1955.
