I hope you have noted that our President BertMacMannis has been elected as an at-large member of the Alumni Council. This gives us two members - Bert and John Steele, who is chairman of the Council Public Relations Committee. Bert, incidentally, a long time employee of Reader's Digest, has since 1970 been general manager of the Television Division for that company, a new enterprise that he was instrumental in selling to his management. It takes him all over the world and to points west in the USA.
In fact, it enables him to give us the following news: Bill Lyon is still in San Jose, Calif., where he has lately been working through a merger in behalf of the Citizens Savings and Loan. He is hopful of making the Reunion in June. Art Adler "retired" on January I as president of Helene Curtis in Chicago. Inactivity was such that he set up a small manufacturers representative business selling 'raw materials used by cosmetic firms. He works half a day at it, and apparently spends the rest of the day in his own Beach Craft Baron which he might use to wing to our 35th.
Bob Timbers, residing in Stamford, Conn., has just bought a summer home on Nantucket, and when not up-grading the new manse, is out of the golf course. Don Rehor, the lovable old grampa in Batavia, N.Y., reports he is still rolling along in good health. Bill Parkhill, a retired colonel, now resides at 1040 Corsica Dr., Pacific Palisades, Calif. 90272 where he has moved with wife Peg after four years in Honolulu. Bill is working for Ralph M. Parsons, "the biggest Engineering Firm in the world" in Bill's words. In May, he and Peg spent some time in Hong Kong where he completed an air transportation study. The Parkhills have two daughters, Diana (29) a teacher of art and English at a junior high school in San Francisco, and Carol (27) a fourth grade teacher in the same city.
Dick Weil is retired in Wilmington, Vt. So is Jake Holland in Underhill Center, Vt. Jake's oldest son graduated from Dartmouth last year, and now resides in Norwich, Vt. His second son is on a world trip under the auspices of the Univ. of Puget Sound, Tacoma, in his senior year. A daughter, is married, living in Boston, and working in PR and advertising with Poloroid.
Bill Tucker commutes cross country continually in behalf of his oil company. Another bow to Sam Thurm who was tended a $25 per plate dinner by the Advertising, Publishing, Public Relations and Allied Professions Division of the United Jewish Appeal at the Americana Hotel, May 30. Guest Speaker was Connecticut Senator Abe Ribicoff. Paul Winship has been named vice president for External Affairs at Pine Manor Junior College effective this past September 1. He leaves Bennett College, Millbrook, N.Y., where he has been since 1965. New address 176 Court St., Dedham, Mass. 02026. Ev Woodman has resigned as the chairman of the Nature Convervancy this past July 1. Haven't heard what he is now tackling. Dusty and Happy Rohde report an interesting interlude at Dartmouth Horizons in late July.
J. Moreau Brown appointed a member of the N.Y. State American Revolution Bicentennial Commission. Brownie now lies at 753 Hardscrabble Rd. Chappaqua, N.Y. 10514. Bud Blunt appointed a member of the mortgage Committee of the Teachers Insurance & Annuity Assn. of America. Pete Cardozo has been appointed director of Bantam Books Inc., Premium Marketing Division. He had been creative director and VP of Bruns Advertising Agency, and before that TV-creative director of Fuller & Smith & Ross Inc. also advertising.
Your scribe just elected president of the Massachusetts Broadcasting Association after screwing up the Association books as treasurer for a year. We found out we were almost twice as tall as Senator Pastore (R.I.) when we introduced him at annual convention.
Learned too late that Jerry Beatty was but a few miles away last fall at Darrow School (over the N.Y. border) on a writing assignment, jerry's wife Joann took a daughter and herself on a driving trip around England this summer. Jerry says he is "happy to say he can take care of himself for just about a month."
John Egbert's widow is now addressed as Mrs. Louisa B. Woods, 775 Woodbine Ave., Glendale, Ohio 45246. We are happy to report that JunieMerriam is on the mend after a lung operation. He and Marty put in a few weeks of recuperation at Martha's Vineyard this Sept. Noted in the Darien press a picture of daughter Julie Merriam, a recipient of Wee Burn Club's "Best Sportsman" of the swimming team, and son Chip Merriam winner of the "best swimming award." Same press details the marriage of Bill and Kit Mason's daughter Katherine to H.G. Spencer Smith Jr. on September 1. Pretty girl, but why not? Look at her mother.
