As we write these notes the end of December, little news had arrived. So, thanks to Syl Morey sending a clipping from the April. 1972 issue of the Amistad Research Center of Dillard University on the Amistad Scholar-in-Residence, we herewith present it to the Class and other alumni who read class notes:
"Dr. Lester B. Granger is the first Amistad Scholar-in-Residence. Dr. Granger is writing a book dealing with his experiences and observations in the broad area of human relations over the last fifty years. His primary sources are his own papers, which are to be permanently housed in the Center after the completion of his book. A native of Newport News, Va., and a graduate of Dartmouth College, Dr. Granger served for twenty years (1941-61) as executive director of the National Urban League.
"Before joining the Urban League in 1934, he had been on the staff of the New Jersey Manual Training School. Since his retirement from the Urban League he has served as distinguished professor or lecturer at Dillard University, Tulane University, Rutgers University School of Social Work, Morehouse College, Hampton Institute, Atlanta University School of Social Work, Park College, Loyola University of New Orleans, and Texas Southern University.
"Dr. Granger has served (1956-1960) as chairman of the Federal Advisory Council on Employment Security of the United States Department of Labor; as a trustee of the State University of New York and of St. Paul's College; and as an overseer of the Brandeis University School for Advanced Studies in Social Welfare. He was the architect for the policy established by the United States Navy for ending racial segregation, for which he received the Navy's Distinguished Civilian Service Medal in 1946. He received from Harry S. Truman the President's Medal for Merit in 1947,"
Tom Jones and Howie Park reported, as of mid-December, that twenty-two 1918 men and women will attend the annual Pow-Wow at The Sheraton, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on March 13, while Chief George Stoddard and his Scout Ed Felt list 97 men, women, and children who have signed for our 55th tribal reunion on June 8, 9, and 10 in Hanover. Our reunion slogan is "Your classmates want to see you" and your secretary's is "Your classmates want to hear about you." So do send in news of yourself and others.
