Again our annual thanks to all who sent Christmas cards with added Brownie Points to those including notes. It's an excellent medium for getting news of yourselves before the eager eyes of classmates.

As reported last month Bill Breitinger suffered a cerebral hemorrhage at Thanksgiving time. He underwent surgery and has been in a coma in the hospital up to this writing. The fact that he is still alive is an encouraging sign but no assessment of damage is possible until he shows signs of consciousness and this can take months. A note of encouragement to Jean would be most welcome, 1539 Girard Avenue, Wyomissing, Pa., 19610.

Although we reported Crawf Hinman as hale and hearty following his and Eileen's remarkable survival of an auto accident last August wherein he ruptured a vertabra in his neck, complications developed. Back at work, he noted diminishing strength in his left hand which signaled a pinched nerve with potentially disastrous consequences. Immediate traction was needed so he had another hospital tour having three of his neck vertabrae fused. We visited him just before he went home and can now say he looks and feels just fine—only one problem, limited turning of his head. With his usual humor Crawf describes this as a backingup-the-car problem but he has always wanted outside rear-view mirrors on both sides of the car anyway.

in case you missed a recent Give-a-Rouse item a news release from Hallmark Cards says ArneLanner now heads responsibility as Director of Customer Financial Services where he will oversee credit and financial relationships of Hallmark and its thousands of accounts. He started with that firm in 1946 and his most recent position was president of their Henri Fayette Inc., in Chicago.

We have not had space to tell that Katie and I took ten days last September to visit our younger son Bill in Virginia Beach where he is a Navy lieutenant flying F-4 Phantom jets as a GIB (guy in the back) but actually described as Radar Intercept Officer. At present he's assigned to the carrier J. F. Kennedy which is scheduled to leave for the West Pacific (around Cape Horn) in March. With our trusty directory we had no trouble locating Ginnie and Whitey Fuller with whom we spent a great afternoon of chitchat over beers. Whitey of course is retired as a Navy captain but sure does not look it and Ginnie, painter of reknown, has her own air-conditioned studio where portraits (her specialty) and all sorts of beautiful creations show her natural ability. Whitey says he devours anything that comes his way from Dartmouth (Hi, Whitey) and appears better posted on doings there than Kemeny himself.

We called Myrtle and Tom McIntyre who invited us to spend a night in Washington on the way home. They were in the midst of his reelection campaign and were only in D. C. for three days while Tom voted on some important issues and then rushed back to New Hampshire. We truly felt like VIP's with Tom introducing us to various well-known senators plus a tour of the city both day and night when it's all lighted up plus dinner atop the Holiday Inn which looks out over everything.

As host and hostess they are unbeatable, especially considering their great concern about his close race with ex-Governor Powell for Tom's senate seat (see below). We called Meg and BobAylward only to find they were flying to Europe next day for a month's visit to old friends and places. The trip was a present from their children. What a present! More on that later.

The UPI headline summed it up nicely, "Mclntyre Eludes GOP Avalanche in N. H." Tom was the only major Democratic candidate to overcome the strong Republican showing, trouncing Powell 152,403 to 119,259 so he's in for six more years. Right after election he and Myrtle had a 20-day tour of the East European countries and he attended the NATO conference in Bonn as a delegate. They finally found time to rest taking the last two weeks of December at West Palm Beach. Tom has expressed his personal thanks to all who participated in the "Class of '37 for Senator Mclntyre" drive and gratefully related that classmates contributed in the vicinity of $3400. All the money was kept segregated with the bulk used to pay media expenses. Our heartiest congratulations to Tom.

We have just received the shocking news that George Roewer's wonderful, vivacious wife Peggy succumbed to cancer. They missed their first D/H game this year and we heard she was ill at that time. The Class extends deepest sympathy to George; she will be very much missed at any future gathering.
