The class dinner January 9 at the Dartmouth Club of New York was a great success, Chairman Jack Zellers reports, with '27 and '29 joining in the event. These classes and '28 will be reuning at the same time: June 11-13.
Present were 14 '28ers, with President JackKenerson and Fran coming down from Boston, John Phillips from New Jersey, and all the others from Connecticut: Reunion Chairman CalBillings from Hartford, Treasurer Craig Haines and El Drake and Adelaide from Heritage Village, Southbury, Jack Zellers and Peg from Southport, Bud Weser and Ruth from Wilton, Hammie Hammesfahr and Gratia from Darien and Clark Harrington from Brookfield. (Perhaps we should admit that Phillips and Weser do wort in New York City).
Bill Morton was in New York and Bobby was to meet him for the dinner, but she called to say the flu got her that morning and Bill hurried back to Syracuse. Wes Wood of Troy, N.Y., also had to cancel his reservation due to the flu.
The Trustees have approved the appointment of Bud Osborn, board chairman of Economics Laboratory, Inc., of White Plains, N.Y., as an Overseer of the Tuck School for a three-year term.
Mutt Jennings, retired VP of the First National Bank of Boston, will be teaching at the Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University in June He was in Hanover a few weeks ago on the Job Enrollment Panel.
Although retired from the stock brokerage business, Bud Smith works from January through April as an income tax consultant in North Palm Beach.
Merrill and Nancy Whittemore are looking over Florida for a winter home. Whit retired a year ago as VP of the First American National Bank of Duluth, Minn.
After teaching special education in various New Hampshire schools since 1963 and working with handicapped children, John Gulian of Rochester. N.H., retired January 1. John says "I found my second career much more gratifying than my first and wish now I had started in that field when I graduated. The field is still wide open and needs many more dedicated people." John had previously been a businessman, including 20 years as owner of a 5c-10c department store.
Don Solis rounded up Ralph Bavier of Naugatuck, Conn., for the Dartmouth Club of Sarasota lunch on January 23, and several days later Don and Billee and Ralph and Sue got together for dinner. Don says Jack Waller is working at the Lido Biltmore in Sarasota and hopes to get him to the next Dartmouth luncheon.
Another retired '28 who won't stay retired is Bill Marx of Ridgewood, N.J. Bill retired as Assistant General Counsel of REA Express Inc. (formerly Railway Express Agency) in New York but is continuing in the general practice of law in Ridgewood.
Bob Winchester is Principal Environmental Specialist at the Bureau of Air Pollution Control, Department of Environmental Protection, State of New Jersey, Trenton.
Ed Heyn retired December 31 from Erlinger Mills Corp. in New York (director, secretary, treasurer), and 12 days later he and Millie moved to 9610 Glen Oaks Circle, Sun City, Ariz. They look forward to golf, bridge and, loafing.
Jack and Peg Zellers went to Paris with the Dartmouth Club of Boston group - Jack says there were 85 - a fine congenial group. Everything was low key so you could do as you pleased, the accommodations were splendid, and the price was right.
Mary and I spent January 6 through 20 in Mexico, the first week in Mexico City, Taxco, and Guadalajara and the second in Yucatan, where friends in Merida drove us all over, including a two-day trip to see the fascinating ruins of the ancient Mayan city of Tulum. It is difficult to reach and consequently few tourists disturb the iguanas
Mary fell getting off a bus at the pyramid north of Mexico City and bruised her shoulder, the day after we got back to Troy it started to pain and a quick trip to the hospital showed she had broken her collar bone. To top it off, we both caught the flu as soon as we got home. But the vacation was wonderful!
