Two classmates have dropped out of corporate life and reestablished themselves in the educational world. Russ Brignano is an associate professor of English at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Russ says the most interesting part of his teaching job is "the variety - different ideas, different people. Certainly not the pay - it stinks!" After Dartmouth, Russ spent two years in the U.S. Army and then was an insurance underwriterin Connecticut and Wisconsin for eight years. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. Russ and his wife Mary Germann, a professional researcher and writer, enjoy traveling and camping when their work schedules permit.
Not very far away, in the Pittsburgh suburb of Glenshaw, Les Scammon keeps busy as assistant to the president of Shady Side Academy, an independent college preparatory school. Among other duties, Les chaired the school's Coeducational Planning Committee which was responsible for opening Shady Side's doors to girls after 40 years of boys only. Before joining the school staff, Les was New England Regional Manager for the Dodge Division of McGraw Hill's Information Services Division. Les and his wife Barbara have three children.
Dr. Robert S. Crumrine is the director of pediatric anesthesia at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals in Cleveland. Bob earned his M.D.at the University of Rochester in 1962, and following a two-year stint with the U.S.N.R., he completed six years of internship and residency in 1969. Bob enjoys explaining operations to parents and children, and he plans to pursue an academic career in anesthesia. He lives with his wife Patricia and their three young children in Shaker Heights.
Dick Bugbee is a travelin' man. As the export territory manager for DuPont's Riston Products Division (producers of a dry film photographic system used in printed circuits), Dick is responsible for all sales and marketing efforts with the exception of Europe and Canada. He travels frequently to Japan and finds foreign cultures and business methods intriguing. "One does not assume anything when doing business with the Japanese," he says. Dick regularly sees CharlieSchneider in Japan and attorneys Tom Herlihy and Peter Stone at home in Wilmington, Del. Tom's extra-curricular activities include church (he is a deacon) and tennis. He and his wife Ann Lee have two daughters, Elizabeth, 8, and Sally, 3.
A sketchy bit of information from Perrysburg, Ohio, says that Steve Stranahan is self-employed and specializing in business investments. Steve is also board chairman of the University of Toledo.
As general manager for Rayon Fabrics Corporation (N.Y.C.), Bob Hamilton is responsible for three locations and all personnel, policies and procedures, buying, etc. Prior to his current position, Bob served for four years in the U.S. Army and then held various management positions with the Glens Falls Insurance Company and the Optical Scanning Corporation. Though obviously successful in his present job, Bob's schedule (6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. - sound familiar?) does not allow him much time at home in Morrisville, Pa., with his wife Elizabeth and their four children. So what does Bob plan for the future? "Return to New Hampshire and a family-oriented way of life. Develop skills and interests in out-of-doors sports and activities. Frankly, get away from suburbia and its false gods!"
Keep those cards and letters coming.
