FORTIETH REUNION June 11-14, 1973 '33 Up!!

Last year at this time (end of March) we were writing of the amount of snow on the ground and the continue! good skiing. This year spring has arrived and the skiing is finished.

Bill Dewey, Reunion Chairman par excellence, and his committee have things well in hand for our 40th Reunion June 11-14. We will be housed in the Fayerweather dorms unless you prefer to stay off campus — if so, please make your own arrangements, but get in touch with Bill if you run into problems — The main thing is for you to come!

For the Wednesday morning program SidStoneman has invited the following to participate in a panel discussion: John Monagan, former Congressman from Connecticut's Fifth District and now the resident partner in the Washington law office of Whitman & Ranson, will be moderator; Hoby Van Deusen, assistant curator in the department of Mammalogy at the American Museum of Natural History, will represent science; Van Collins, retired president of the State University of New York at Albany and currently a professor at Boston College and consultant for the American Council of Education in Washington, will speak for education; MannieSprague, vice president of American Machine and Foundry Corp., will represent business; and Mrs.Warren Braley, Myrtle ("Mike" to those who knew her well), former president of the New York Federation of Women's Clubs and an authority in the local catering world, will speak for the distaff side. With this distinguished group, it will be both informative and amusing.

If you haven't yet let Bill know you will be there, please do so. Just drop a card at Quechee, Vt. 05057. John Meek, reunion treasurer, would like a deposit of $50 per couple, $25 per single, from those planning to attend. This will be refunded if you have to change your plans and you let him know before June 1.

John Reed, University of Wisconsin, Green Bay, has been invited to serve as a member of the U.S. Committee for Man and the Biosphere. The invitation was issued by the U.S. National Committee for UNESCO. The purpose of the committee is to help shape policy and to identify those elements within the Biosphere program which the U.S. should adopt as objectives of primary concern. The members will also help to identify expert human resources in the country who might be called upon to work on specific research projects. John was also recently named chairman of the U.S. National Committee for the International Biological Program which is coordinated in the U.S. by the National Academy of Sciences.

Hanover High athletic director Forrie Branch's athletes won three state championships this winter - hockey, boys ski championship, and girls ski championship. The Valley News, in commenting on the ski program, gave credit to the late FordSayre, first manager of the Mt. Moosilauke Ravine Lodge, for the youth skiing program which he and his wife Peggy started in the late 1930's while they were managing the Hanover Inn. Today 600 kids per year participate in the Ford Sayre program starting at age eight.

Wayne Donner, son of the late Ward Donner and Hilda Donner, has joined Jake Crouthamel's football coaching staff as assistant freshman coach. He is an Amherst graduate and comes to Dartmouth after one year as a member of Bob Blackman's staff at Illinois.

The Boston Alumni meeting on March 20 was well attended by '33ers. Sid and Miriam Stoneman very graciously hosted a pre-dinner cocktail party. Those who attended this very nice pre-reunion party were: Bob and Babe Fox, Arch Lade, Jeff and Bea Davis, Wes Beattie, Van Collins, Dan and Selma Rollins, Whit and Ginny Kimball and their son Richard '68, John and Charlene Scanlon, Vin Merrill, John and Kathlene Thompson, George and Ellie Rideout, Cliff Johnson, Norm and Marg Erlandson, and Jake and Ginny Jaquith. We tied with '53 for the attendance cup. This is the fourth year in a row that we have taken home the cup.

Our goal for the Alumni Fund for this, our 40th Reunion Year, is $150,000. It would be wonderful to be able to make this presentation at the dinner on Wednesday, June 13. Please respond promptly and generously to the request of your class agent.
