Greetings from winterless New Hampshire. The tables were sure turned on the Old Farmer'sAlmanac, ski areas and snow bunnies this year. We've had an incredibly mild winter, and spring began for real (at least at this writing we think it's for real) in early March - we even avoided the slush season which was so notorious during our Dartmouth "springs."
The question this month is "What have you done for the Class of 1977?" The recruitment and enrollment of outstanding high school students for Dartmouth is an activity in which more and more of our classmates are becoming involved, and it's a very worthwhile and satisfying experience. It's too late to help the '77s, but now might be a good time for me to make my annual pitch for your help in rounding up the Class of 1978.
'78! That's a frightening thought, isn't it. Let's see, that makes us how old?
The April issue of National Geographic featured an article on "John Muir's Wild America" with photographs by DeWitt Jones. John Muir has been the theme of Wiff's latest work, which involves a slide-photograph-lecture presentation which tours colleges, schools and civic groups around the country.
Pete Baumbusch writes from Santa Monica that southern California is blissful. Pete toils for Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in L.A., and he and Geneese had their first child. Brent Thomas, in mid-January. They see a lot of the Tom Longs, as Tom works for the same law firm. Pete's letter read like a brochure from the California Chamber of Commerce - obviously they are happy and they extended an invitation to any '65 to visit if you're in the area - just bring gasoline rationing cards, says Peter.
Bob Shine, who is finishing his last year of ObGyn residency at Indiana University, responded to the news of Wah Wah Walsh's summer adventure by announcing that '73 will be his fifth summer as a licensed guide for white water expeditions on the Middle Fork and Selway rivers in the Idaho Primitive Area. Won't it be something if their paths cross out there this summer. Think there'll be some beer drunk?
Happy days and peace.
