Many young fry proclaim large parties, debutante presentations, and the like, are definitely not the "in" thing anymore, but '22 dissents, and the Class continues to make festive every occasion it gets together.
Our Little Reunion at the Hanover Inn, April 27-28, was the first of the spring gatherings. Thirty-five members of the class were there to enjoy themselves and each other. Spring, even in April showers, with all the young people on the campus is enough to make anyone glad to be in Hanover, to say nothing of the unique pleasure of being once again with one's own class. SteveKenyon will have much more to report in The Twoter about this happy weekend.
Class Officers meetings came the next Friday and Saturday, May 4-5. Bill and Trudy Bullen,Carroll and Nan Dwight, Steve and Vi Kenyon,Spenny and Marj Smith, Ike and Harriott Miller,Len and Margaret Morrissey had the privilege of representing the Class.
The Annual Post 50-Year Reunion for such classes, including our own, will take place June 11-12-13 in Hanover and some Twoters will be there. A report on that congenial gathering will appear in a future issue.
But now at the end of April, the '22 party schedule for the 1973 autumn warrants special notice. The first '22 autumnal get-together will be the weekend of the Penn game, October 12-13, and the second will be the weekend of the Yale game, November 2-3. Either, indeed both, of these games could - and probably will - be decisive in determining the 1973 Ivy Championship. Incidentally, at 10 o'clock on the morning of the Yale Varsity game, the Yale and Dartmouth Freshmen will play on Chase Field. Rooms for both the Penn and Yale game weekends will, of course, be scarcer than hospitality huts at Wounded Knee. The Class would have no roof over our heads if Ike Miller had not made the usual arrangements for a block of rooms at Howard Johnson's White River Motel. These will be available to classmates upon prior notification - and please make it plenty prior - to Ike. As customary, reservations for either or both weekends, October 12-13 and November 2-3, require a minimum two night-Friday and Saturday-commitment. If you want reservations, Ike's address is Gen. Walter I. Miller, Thetford Center, Vt. 05075; his telephone is 802-785-2012. Preceding both games '22 will have luncheon as usual in the Drake Room, Hopkins Center. Each game will start at 1:30 so the sizeable group that always attends these pre-game luncheons will gather in the Drake Room beginning about 11 a.m. Arrangements for Saturday evening dinners on both weekends are being made and will be announced during the summer. So, again here it is - "Twenty-Two Up."
Our Class, last of the small classes in the Dartmouth fellowship, always delights in saluting other classes who tangibly demonstrate their affection for the College. Therefore, '22 joyfully congratulates our contemporaries in '23, first of the large classes, for their magnificent 50th Reunion gift to Dartmouth. May '23s Fiftieth exceed all expectations. These young friends of ours surely deserve no less.
"Where did you fellows in '22 get your 50th Reunion Class Directory? How many copies did you have? How much did it cost? We in the class of ( ) want one just like it." And even some Twoters have given the directory a word of commendation. Indeed, we've heard of no divorces, desertions nor denouements caused by the directory. But we have found two errors: one wife was erroneously assigned to the wrong classmate and one distinguished Twoter had his first name mutilated. Apologies to the wife and husband of the misplaced spouse and to our misspelled classmate. Thanks to both for not suing the Class for defamation of character. In that case, IkeMiller and Len Morrissey, to say nothing of the printer, would be silenced and exiled to Siberia, a sentence that might not be completely devoid of justice.
Like the robins many of our own birds have returned to their northern nests. The exodus from Florida is overwhelming. But among others, Stanand Catherine Miner are home from Europe, Herm and Flo Oliver from St. Maarten, Ted andBab Davidson and Dick and Mary Litchfield from Arizona. Oscar and Bea Rice from California, Warren and Mary Daniell from Colorado and the West Coast. And with the prayerful gratitude of his parents, Charlie Morrissey '56 is back from Djakarta where he was on a special assignment for the Ford Foundation.
Sadly, '22 has recently lost two classmates: Linwood E. Davis and Ray Wason. More details appear under Obituaries.
The Class also offers its deepest sympathy to AlCrampton whose wife Hortense and mother of their two Dartmouth sons, Richard '49 and Neal '51, passed away last autumn.
The 1973 Alumni Fund will soon close. If you have not already done your share, this is the time. You will enjoy the summer much more if you have shown your loyalty to your College and your Class.
And now to all, happy gardening, golfing, sailing, fishing, and all the things you do to make the summer pleasant.
