JUNE 1973 OSMUN SKINNER, GEORGE W. EMERY

The annual Class Officers Meetings brought three '28ers and their wives to Hanover for the May 4-6 weekend: President Jack Kenerson, Treasurer Craig Haines and Reunion Chairman Cal Billings. Class Agent George Emery had reservations but had to fly to Guadeloupe in the West Indies. His sister was taken seriously ill while vacationing there and George brought her to a hospital in Philadelphia. Your secretary had to stay home to continue his efforts to buy gasoline to keep his stations open. (So you don't believe there is a shortage!)

A conference call on class business May 5 confirmed that everything is all set for the big 45th (the officers on the scene had just spent part of the afternoon inspecting at Cal's request the Quechee Lakes site of our class picnic scheduled for Tuesday noon.) The Class is going great guns on the Alumni Fund, but everyone has to do his utmost to help reach our $119,280 goal for our 45th Reunion gift to the College.

The material for the '28 Directory is almost ready to be mailed to Elliott Donnelley, who will rush it through his plant and hopefully you will receive it before Reunion. As we have told you, this is a gift from Elliott to the Class.

Elliott is chairman of reunions at Deerfield Academy this year and will be making the alumni address there June 23, in addition to celebrating his 50th reunion.

Craig Haines reports that Ev and KatharineFields are seriously considering joining the Haines, Drakes, Kilgores and Tysons as residents of Heritage Village, Southbury, Conn.

Bill Morton, president of the Onondaga County Savings Bank in Syracuse, has been appointed by Governor Rockefeller to the State Banking Board, for a three-year term. The board makes the regulations to promote sound banking in the state and approves or disapproves applications for charters for any corporations subject to approval of the state banking department. Members of the board serve without pay.

Fritz Titus, retired controller of Madigan-Hyland, a big engineering firm in Long Island City, N.Y., has "revocated" like Wally and NatalieCarr to the antique shop business. Fritz and Hazel own the Old Curiosity Shop in Lewes, Del.

George Pitts was laid up for six months with a series of illnesses culminating in a short hospital stay. He and Frances have sold their home in Jamestown, N.Y., and are planning on moving into an apartment. George helped found the Community College in Jamestown and says his other hobbies are golf, bridge, reading, and friendly contacts.

This is the time of year that Jerry Johnston is up to his ears in football. His firm, G. H. Johnston, Inc., in New York City, owns the TV and radio football broadcast rights to 13 colleges and is busy scheduling them all over the country. Jerry for years has handled the weekly broadcasts of the Metropolitan Opera for Texaco.

Stretch Davis, professor emeritus of English at Lehigh, liked his sojourn in Florida so much that he and Libby may settle there next winter, but keep their summer home on Lords Point, Stonington, Conn.

Art Hassell is active in the U.S. Seniors Golf Association and he and Lura are playing in a three-day tournament at the Shinnecock Country Club, Southampton. L.I., in mid-June. Art has been with B. Altman & Co. in New York for 41 years and is vice president in charge of branch stores. His other hobby is stamp collecting U.S., British Empire, France and United Nations.

Warren Burding has retired as executive vice president of Lever Brothers Co. and bought a place in Delray Beach, Fla. He joins GeorgeBoughton who discovered the place 40-odd years ago, Chuck Hazzard, and Elliott Donnelley.

Ned Brown of Amesbury, Mass., has remarried, we learned from his questionnaire, and his wife's name is Myldred. Ned is suburban editor and columnist for Essex County Newspapers Inc., Newburyport.

Dick White, long-time resident of Montauk, Long Island, N.Y., is now a real estate salesman there, with plenty of time for golf and travel. He has been on the school board 25 years, and treasurer of the fire department for 10 years.

Mutt Jennings, who retired in 1971 as senior VP of the First National Bank of Boston, has been elected a director of Cadence Industries Corp. The firm is engaged in publishing, pharmaceuticals, mail order, and leisure activities
