Well, it appears that my announced retirement last spring was a bit premature. Guess I've reenlisted for the duration, which, no doubt, reduces the elation at the magazine headquarters.

A couple of apologies are due first. For ErwinMiller, let it be known he is the proud father of three girls; Emilie (5), Betsy (3½), and Sarah (1). He is still in Worcester, Mass., however.

Mike Beachley has also put me straight to the fact that he is at the Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia, in Richmond rather than at the University Medical School in Charlottesville. And Mike is an associate professor and not a full professor as I had promoted him last spring.

Actually, making these not-so-subtle errors in the column usually results in some mail response. We'll try anything.

All of you, and especially John Clark are to be commended. What a great alumni drive. Hats off to everyone who contributed. With conditions as they are these days, the drive results were sensational.

One of the most famous graduates of the "pit" section of the DDA, Andy Zigelis, spent the summer at Moscow University studying Russian under the Soviet-American cultural exchange agreement. Andy is on his way to gathering in a doctorate in Russian literature from Cornell and, otherwise, keeps occupied at Drew University in Madison, N.Y., where he is a language instructor.

A special invitation has come from Bob Aiken ("The Chief Vermont State Bureaucrat") who enjoys the good country life in a small farm in Jericho, Vt., located about an hour and a half from Hanover. Bob says there is plenty of room to camp and use the woods and fields. There's a good fireplace and a keg supply is within ten miles. Give the Aikens a call at (802) 899-4083. Incidentally, the old left hander injured his throwing arm this summer and may have to greet his guests with a cast. Something to do with becoming entangled with some Vermont red tape.

With luck, by next month we should have both a picture and news of William Edgar.

Have to make it short this month, and give all of you a chance to pick up the pens and get my machinery restarted. Hope to see you this fall.
