A mild January helped a lot in the fuel crisis with a resultant saving in the precious fluid. On Sunday, January 23, the thermometer registered 63 degrees, a record in this part of the country. This was very helpful, as previously our old fuel tank had burst asunder with a resultant loss of 235 gallons of high-priced oil, most of which fortunately went down a hole in the concrete floor, thus forestalling a further catastrophe. Insurance bought a new tank but the loss of the oil was not covered in the fine print.
Stub Stoughton spent two weeks in Ohio with his two sons and their families. He expected to head south after Christmas and now is presumably enjoying the warm sunshine.
John Remsen reports that they had a good Christmas but the weeks preceding it were pretty tough. They had no telephone or heat for 11½ hours which he says is not good for one with poor circulation. He also reports receiving a fine memorial gift from Ruth Gay King, NelsonGay's widow. Ruth was married to Thorn King last fall, and who conducted the ceremony? None other than our Ben Andrews.
Andy Comstock is now in Long Beach, Calif., and his address is Bixby Knolls Towers, Apt. 903, Zip 9087. He dropped in to see Bernice Mason, Bill Mason's widow. She had just returned from a visit over Christmas with her daughter and family in San Francisco.
Birthdays seem to come around fast in these days and for March we salute and wish good health to George Davidson (5th), Bill Dent and Val Jenkins (6th), Clarence Meleney (11th), and Myron Myers (31st).
Word has just been received that Ben Andrew fell on the ice and broke his hip on January 13 after attending church. He is in the Cheshire Hospital, Keene, N.H. 03441. We all wish him a quick recovery from his mishap. It's certain that he would be pleased to hear from his classmates.
