From way out in Tucson, Ariz., Ed Davidson writes of attending Dartmouth luncheons in town (but no '47s) and tells of playing a lot of tennis. ("Too far to go skiing" - although he was hoping to make Aspen once during the winter.) Ed says: "Working on (Govt) land poop for planning. Lots of poop, but the planning is more difficult."

A family that makes news, if nothing else keeps the local newspaper happy. And so the Stamford (Conn.) Advocate rejoices in the activities of the Bob Foote family of Darien.

A story in early March told of Bob being awarded a distinguished service medal by commissioners of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Manager of the research division of the Tunnels and Bridges Department of the authority, our classmate was cited for his "initiative, imagination, perseverance, and high professionalism both in research and in projects he has guided to completion." With the Port Authority since 1949, Bob has pioneered in traffic management research and traffic flow theory.

A week after Bob's honor was reported, the Advocate had an article telling of the reelection of Susanne Foote as vice chairman of the Darien Democratic Town Committee.

Norm Fink has forwarded a most interesting letter bringing us up to date on the Dick Cates family. We learn from Marnie Cates that Dick has been in Washington deeply involved in the House Judiciary Committee's historic presidential impeachment investigation.

When John Doar became special counsel for the House committee in December, Dick was named his chief assistant. This meant taking a six-month leave of absence from his law practice in Madison, Wis. Dick hopes to return to his practice in June.

"He has a fine staff of young lawyers and people (old friends and new ones) have been wonderful to him," Marnie writes. She and three youngsters of high school age have stayed in Madison, keeping in touch with Dad through occasional visits and numerous telephone calls. Two boys are in college. Dick Jr., is a senior at Dartmouth and was on the ski team, but broke his leg in January. Son John attends the University of Rochester.

We all know how important is this year's Alumni Fund Drive as the College tackles its serious financial difficulties. The class response in the initial stages of the drive was encouraging. Let's keep those pledges and gifts coming in to Class Agent Alan Epstein.
