Reunion - June 14-16 - Reunion

The reunion countdown has begun - only one month away. Have you made your reservations? Don't miss out! Sixteen years have passed since we left Hanover. Let's get together again now while there are still a few hairs left on the head and before that middle aged spread sets in too much. I received the following urgent message which I will relay to you: "URGENT+URGENT+URGENT - Dear Class Sec., Hugh Mclsaac and Dick Beards would like to come to the 16th Reunion, but our welfare checks have been lost this month-computer goof. If some of our more affluent and successful fellow executive Indians would send us a little wampum ($900), we could make it to the great 16th and sing, 'When the backs go tearing by ...' one more time, 'wah-hoo-wah.' Please let us know you care and send your checks and money orders to: Pandemonium Bar c/o Jim Jones - Pine and Broadway - Long Beach, Calif." signed, "Two fallen sons of Dartmouth - made of clay, not of granite."

Speaking of fund raising, we are approaching the end of the Alumni Fund campaign. In this reunion year we are making a super-human effort to raise $100,000. We are well on the way to our goal, but we can only make it if everyone makes as large a contribution as is possible. If you haven't given yet, do so; if you have already given and can see your way clear, give again!

The terrible skiing here in the East during the early season gave Jane and me a good excuse to wend our way west to sample a little of that fine western skiing. On our way out to Alta, Utah, we had a short layover in Denver. Digging through the telephone directory, I found that Joe Blake was still paying his phone bills. The night we called, Skip Louis was paying a visit. The Louises live in Chicago with their two children where Skip is with Bell and Howell. Joe, who is with HUD, reports that KidCowperthwaite and family were up in Vail for a vacation. Joe also reported that Dick Frisch stopped by recently on a business trip to Denver.

We spent most of our time skiing at Snowbird which is a fabulous resort. This year we managed to escape with no injuries and Jane ran me into the ground again. Sunning on the plaza at Snowbird we ran into Myles Slosberg who managed to sneak in a few days of skiing on his way to the West Coast to do some business for Stride-Rite Show Co., where Myles is executive vice president. We also ran into the Dartmouth ski team which had just returned from Jackson Hole; they had placed fourth in the NCAA Ski Championships there. As always, it was a pleasure meeting and talking to the fine Dartmouth undergraduates.

Back in Colorado, Chuck Lewis, president of Copper Mountain, Inc., near Frisco, Colo, was "honored for environmental accomplishment by industry. His painstaking work to preserve the essential nature and esthetic aspects during design and construction of a new ski area and recreational development have been dominated by an environmental overview which shows development and environmental protection can work together." After seeing what has been done in some unnamed "plastic" ski areas, it's nice to hear people are taking a close look at this kind of planning.

Pete Williamson, professor of neurology at Yale Medical School, has been appointed to the Board of Overseers for Dartmouth Medical School.

New York's loss is Boston's gain as the Rev.Jim Crawford will become pastor of Boston's historic Old South (Congregational) Church. Jim was co-pastor of Central Presbyterian Church at Park Avenue and 64th St. He is a director of the East Harlem Protestant Parish and for a time served as pastor of the First Federated Church in Bayonne, N.J. The Old South Church is 305 years old.

Remember your reunion reservations. See you there!

Dr. Ted Harris '58 of Dartmouth MedicalSchool gets a $2,000 award for outstand-ing research from Mrs. John T. Johnson, vice president of Kappa Delta Sorority.
