It's one of the ironies of writing class notes that when you have no space to spare copy is easy to come by and presses for the saying; when you have plenty of space ... ah, that's another story. Sweet frustrations, both. Right now, the priority has to be the final column before our 50th Reunion. So let's say how it looks now:
Don Wilbur says he has received about 110 firm YES responses with deposits (as of May 1), and more will be coming in as this goes to press. "We look for a GREAT party. The $45 per person charge covers all your meals starting Friday evening and on through Sunday noon luncheon at the Outing Club." (Pray for good weather; we're overdue up here right now.) There will be two cocktail parties; beer and mixers will be available in the tent each night. We'll have our 1924 bus to serve as a shuttle to points outside the campus area. There will be singing, especially on Saturday night, and a well-edited reel of our class movies. Even dancing in the tent, yet!
Despite the rapid New England changeable weather ... from wonderfully springlike to chilly ... Hanover is a wonderful place right now and will be even better come June. "Hanover is putting on all its most beautiful clothes of green (as of May 6, the trees are just a fuzzy green, with red for maples . . . birds sing especially early in the morning at the feeders we all have) . . . and 50 years will slip away for a great experience of Reunion." Come and bring your memories; many will "swap you even." Dave Dvche heads up a very active Hospitality Committee ... all the local classmates and wives ... and will put the finishing touches on our plans when we gather for Sunday brunch after Class Officers meeting in a few days. I doubt we've missed many ways to make you comfortable and happy; so far as food goes . . . including light refreshment in the tent when you register Friday afternoon, we are delighted (and lucky) to have the pleasant and efficient help of Jeanette Gill, retired miracle worker with the College's meals for students (the DDA) ... we made her an honorary member of our class at our 40th reunion. Remember? At our 30th, we made Prof. Keir (Economics) an honorary member. Who will it be this year? Jeanette was Nebraska '24; also an ex-Marine.
One final word or two: gasoline is no problem; currently "regular" is selling at about 55¢ . . . just went up first of May . . . but no lines . . . not even short ones. Being 300 miles away from New York 135 from Boston, is no excuse for missing this biggest of them all . . . the Golden one. You will have had information about frequent bus service (from White River Junction) to Boston and on to Logan Airport; and to New York. Just stay healthy! I know some have not been ... and still, are not. . . free from sickness, infirmities. I'll "accent the positive" and be thankful for all we are and who we are. 1924 is going to be proud of itself this Reunion. Be sure to be a part of it.
And a P.S. I have had a few 'phone calls asking about this or that. If you have questions, don t hesitate; that's what a secretary is for. The phone: (603) 643-2214. We're looking forward to seeing you . . . and you-all.
