Brief mention was made, because of lack of space, about the dedication ceremony at the First Parish Church in East Derry, N.H. in memory of Alan B. Shepard. He was church organist for over 60 years, and thereby hangs a tale:

This is what Bart told Carl Forsaith of his first involvement. His father and mother were members of the choir, the board of supervisors, etc. Very early in the century there was no organist. Bart had taken piano lessons, so Mama Shepard said in substance, "Get over there and play the organ." His remonstrances had no effect, so he played for the morning service and continued to do so for nearly 70 years. And another longtime record: His father became treasurer of Pinkerton Academy in 1888 and held that post until 1925 when Bart took over. The latter continued to supervise the expenses of an enrollment of about 150 when he began but which grew to over 1,500 or more when illness forced him to retire. The chimes and carillon are a fine tribute to Alan Shepard and were made possible by numerous donations from the family and his many friends.

Reverand Benjamin F. Andrew, 83, of 10 High Street, Keene, N.H., died November 26 at the Cheshire Hospital after a brief illness. Ben was a very popular member of the Class and, needless to say, he will be missed by all. Ben had a heart attack some weeks ago, but came home and was apparently doing fairly well. Mrs. Thorne King, Nelson Gay's widow, and Carl Forsaith attended the service. They were also present at the dedication to Bart Shepard which they agreed was a fine tribute to him.
