As I sit in my new apartment, starting life as an attorney, I realize that a new chapter is being written, and to those 72s who are experiencing that same feeling, ray best.
Dennis Cronin, having graduated from Boston University Law School in June, has taken a job with the U.S. Customs Department in Washington, D.C. Since I've departed for the North Country, as the above address indicates, John Wilner Fieldsteel is left in Boston as the sole survivor of the 3A crew. John and his kneepads have one more year to go at B.U. Law, as does James "JWAT" White. NormCohen, a UConn Law grad, has accepted a Vista job with Alaskan Legal Services, and reportedly has his eye on a polar bear already. Need lots of anti-freeze up there, Norm. Cy Jordan, meanwhile, was last seen hauling off a cadaver with Mel Brooks at U.Conn. Med. ForrestAnthony will be completing med school at the University of Virginia after transferring from U.Oregon Med. Kathryn Lee (Kinney) Anthony is probably the main reason for the switch. She's completing her MBA at Virginia, and since they were married only this summer, 3,000 miles was deemed to be too much of a strain on their relationship! The Class offers its best wishes to them. Marty Staff became a blushing groom this summer as well. He managed to get time off from his job as a buyer for Bloomingdale's to wed Robin Ann Joseph. The honeymoon was spent in the sports department. Our best to them as well.
In another development, I received a note from a Vicki Fleming, who is one of five people sharing a town house with Charlie Shockey, who graduated from Georgetown Law, and took the D.C. Bar Exam this summer. Vicki accuses him of spending too much time with his rat maze, reading prurient novels, and prowling for women. I can't see why Vicki's upset - at least he's not playing with a woman maze and prowling for rats.
Tom Kendall, after four years as Nordic Program director for the Eastern Ski Association, has moved to Auburn, Me., his hometown, as a salesman for Veribest Accounting Systems. Moving with him is his wife Nancy and Nancy's present companion, who should be born in November. Tom's already whittling skis. Since T.K. holds tight to the all-male Dartmouth we left, he's voting for a son. But, if he doesn't get his wish, coeducation means she has a chance for a Dartmouth education, too.
Jon Fauer informs us that he has been accepted into the cameramen's union. He has been working with Vision Associates, which we are informed is one of the top documentary film companies in New York. Poverty relief in the Philippines, children's games in Hong Kong, east-west trade in Yugoslavia, have been some of his assignments. I wonder if he's ever met Mel Brooks?
Pete Kneisel sent the following message for all 72s in a letter to his home: "Cliff Borofsky '71, and Captain Peter Kneisel led the Mississippi Darts team to its first victory in four outings over the "A" Bar ladies team, with an impressive 14-9 romp in Bangkok Dart League action." Looks like Pete and Cliff were out to Thai one on (why do I do that?)
Jamie MacArthur dropped a line to let us know that the Canadian CPA business has claimed his time. Jamie is located in Toronto, and the land of Pierre Trudeau, Henri Richard, and Sgt. Preston has now claimed another destined for fame. Come on, King. This case is closed.
Baxter Lanuis informs us that he has been clerking for a Boston law firm and will be taking a position with the City of Boston's Law Department. Night school at Suffolk Law is another pursuit. All this is made more amazing when it is revealed that Baxter is living with Fuzzy Thurston (First National Bank of Boston) and Scotty Shedden '73. Baxter also lets us know that Bob Kruse is teaching school in the Florida Keys, while Alan Garten has gone with his U. Florida law degree to D.C. and a regulatory agency. Kirk Portman, looking forward to a Red Sox - Reds World Series, is in his third year at the National Law Center in D.C.
Meanwhile, Tony Schenk went south of the border (Brazil) and came back with a wife. They are in Boston, where Tony attends Harvard B School. Peter Butler has delcared himself a neutral nation, and is involved in Arab-American trade out of Boston.
One last note: This year our "free ride" on Alumni Mag subscriptions is over. We have to start paying Joan Hier's salary and supporting the publication. In addition, we must pay for the printing and mailing of the newsletter, as well as building some funds for our 5th Reunion. The dues are for the class. When the bills arrive please pay them promptly, so that Dave Friend and I can go to Acapulco.
Oh yes, Ghort - I get him to Vermont, set him up, throw him a little maple syrup and cheddar cheese - now he's homesick and wants to go see the Red Sox in the playoffs. What will my dishwasher think? Nuts and bolts, I got...
