The Class will please come to order.
Fix your memories on undergraduate days and recall the annual football rallies on Dartmouth Day, featuring a huge bonfire on the campus, erected by freshmen. The practice, which had eroded because of changing conditions, and war conditions in particular, has returned.
On Friday night, October 10, 1975, the day before the first Ivy League game, the fire was set and a mammoth parade, including many graduate classes, marched around the campus, led by the Class of 'OB in the single person of John Hinman. When the first part of the parade reached the area in front of Dartmouth Hall, the Glee Club led the singing of "Happy Birthday to You" in honor of John Hinman's 90th birthday.
John himself, in a personal note to your secretary, admits that it was "thrilling."
A week or two before receipt of the December number of the Magazine and edition of the '08er will have reached you, featuring pictures taken at our 25th Reunion. We have been hoping that some of you will be able to identify classmates about whose names we had doubts.
A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.
