Dave Martin, Member of Congress from Nebraska, has retired after many years of distinguished service. Most recently he served as ranking minority member of the potent House Rules Committee. He and Tancie (sister of Tavey Taylor '28) are now cruising around the world aboard one of the new Royal Viking liners. They have sold their beautifully restored house on Capitol Hill but will return to Washington for a brief visit in April before going back to Kearney, the old home town. Best wishes for a happy retirement, Dave.
Herb Ball is now starting his third career, according to an announcement by Richard S. Nye '25 of the Wall Street firm of Georgeson and Co., where Herb is now a senior staff executive. "Herb comes to our organization with an impressive background and breadth of experience. He served as vice president, general counsel, an secretary of Johns-Manville Corporation. After his retirement two years ago, he was retained as consultant to the New York Stock Exchange, with special responsibilities for liaison between the Exchange and listed corporations. Herb has also been active in the American Society of Corporate Secretaries, Inc., serving in a wide variety of positions, including national president in 1970-71. In addition to assisting in our solicitation activities, Herb will have the special assignment of organizing and directing a new Corporate Secretary's Counseling Service."
Herb reports on his young and "Charles spent 6 months in Hanover, didn't the isolation, and received his degree from Sarah Lawrence College, which is right in our own back yard, Bronxville. Herbert Jr., is a senior at Lehigh University and expects to receive his degree in June. Craig is following in Charlie's footsteps in achieving a National Merit spot. At 6 feet two inches he really looks down on his Dad. Joan gets prettier and smarter each day. Charles is working for his M.A. at Columbia. Now you can see why Dad is still working, especially since Craig is headed for college in September." Some additional notes that you have sent in:
Jack Ackley (New York City): "Sorry not to be able to make the Princeton game - still having trouble driving after my spinal fusion - but gradually getting there." Jack, our very best wishes for your rapid recovery.
Phil Fitzpatrick (Pittsburgh, N.Y.): "Carolin and I had a great trip to Alaska in May - to see our son Bill '68, who is there in the Public Health Service. On the way, had a fine visit with Marion and Bill Keyes. Also saw some of that beautiful country, the Canadian Rockies, where Harry Baehr loves to roam and fish!"
Rusty Ayers (Staten Island, N.Y.): "I tossed out an idea to Tuck School, when I was up for that mid-September Moosilauke outing, for business seminars for the tribal council members now facing things like the strip mining in Montana on the Cheyenne reservation. It got a faster reception than I anticipated, so in the ensuing months I look to have some interesting things to report. This is something that can take on real significance, if it can be handled deftly."
George Lane (Canterbury, Conn.): "The only thing I think of at the moment which might be noteworthy is that if I attend the Yale- Dartmouth game in November (which I expect to) I will have seen every Dartmouth-Yale game since 1924,-a 50-year span. They did not play in 1925, the year Dartmouth was designated National Champion." In his reply to George, Jack Hubbard commented: "I remember our first victory through that pass of Bill Morton's and I ended up in the New Haven jail arrested by a drunken policeman for something I didn't do." Those were the days!
