Dear Mates -
If you haven't already noticed, the Cap'n has changed quarters. Since my departure, news has been pouring in by the dozens ... or should one say washed ashore by the waves. Whatever! Just keep up the good work, and we'll all man the ship with success.
The first bit of salty news this month concerns the whereabouts of Dave Bracken and wife Liz. After a hectic but safe journey to Atlanta, Ga. - thanks to the ingenuity of one Allen Krause - Dave and Liz have assured me that life and studies will continue to evolve around industrial psychology at the Tech. Moments of freedom can be had every now and then by keeping in shape at the local Rugby Club under Capt. Dan Papp '69. Thad and Suzanne King manage to sporadically distract them as well with their words of wisdom on the weekends. But rumor has it that a week's vacation is due when buddy Bob Barr plans to lock hands with Tricia Ober (Mary Hitchcock '74) in Boston. Also in attendance - tending the punch, of course - will be Jon Low and Mike Paul.
Also on the wedding calendar is Lynn Manucci ('73 graduate of Mount Holyoke) to MikeKeeshan, son of everyone's hero at one time or another, "Captain Kangaroo." They plan a wedding date of June 14 at which time both will receive master's degrees in business administration from Tuck. What a dynamic duo!
Those overboard include the recent ceremony of onetime junior exchange student Cynthia Saranec (now a graduate of Conn. College and a soon-to-be graduate of Univ. College in London) to Marshall Scholar (London School of Economics) Sam Livermore; and Judy Greenbaum (Tufts, 1973) to one of the Yachting Capitol's notables Mitch Kroner, among such distinguished mates as room buddies WayneLeibel in person and Greg Hahn in spirit ... who, as Mitch puts it, must have "celebrated the occasion with a few beers, while stranded in Alaska on a summer geology job." That's no snow job!
Early in the summer John "J.B." Wilson exchanged vows in Salt Lake City among the likes of "Mac" McCabe and Tom "Ratso" Lane. It all goes well, JB will land a chairmanship of the board of some large corporation after completion of graduate studies at the Univ. of Utah Business School; Mac will own half the state of California in real estate properties; and Ratso will found his own peanut butter factory to compete with his present employer, Proctor and Gamble.
Fortunately, I estimate that at least hall the Class remains single in nature. It is to these mighty macks that the Cap'n tips his hat. Still single and shy at the Univ. of Chicago Business School are Kem Tyler, Rick Fuscone, Bill Gallagher, Jerry Birch, and Mike Hansen. Rick worked this summer for an Investment Banking House and has moved into an apartment which is a short walk (or by late night a long" crawl) from the Rush Street nightclub-bar district of North Chicago. Bill is studying Public Management and has decided against the splendors (?) of Chicago student housing for the commuting hassels to and from home (seems as though the rent and cooking are the right price and quality for his tastebuds). Jerry spent most of his vacation time earning enough money via a jewel manufacturing company to walk down the primrose path with his H.T.H. from Cleveland. Mike can be seen on a regular basis at the CSB beer parties where he proceeds to do what he does with greatest vigor: drink and have a generally outrageous time in spite of his body. And if it hadn't been for Kem, the above news could never have been made possible. I take it for granted that Kem can never be found on weekends, for his skiing activities must keep him well-occupied. Remember, Kem, no sschhuussing... OK?
Chuck Higdon's a freshgentleman at UVa Law and weathering the heights, while Bob Barsha's putting the mechanics behind osmosis to work at Emory Law in Atlanta. Nils Johnson has just realized the impact of a large N.E. school on a small N.E. conservative while attending BU Law.
Closer to home, Steve Bolster's bolstering Glee Club participation as its youngest director in the history of the College. Dave Zelie can still be seen around the Hanover Plain living, teaching, and preaching the word at the Dartmouth Christian Fellowship farm, while working odd jobs for support. Dave Wender may be sighted every now and then with newlywed Marcia behind a stack or two in the AQ libs. Dave is on his last leg of a three-year stint at the Med School. And Pat Martin drops by every now and then to reassure impeccable Joan Hier of the Alumni Mag staff that his address has "really" changed. He recently graduated from Tuck, and is presently working with the Northern Trust Company of Chicago in the cash management area. All you status-seeking grads now know where to go when your balance sheets don't balance!
BAIT AND TACKLE: Both Mike Havern and Bill Sigward (former WDCR radio newsman) have received fellowships a la Tuck. Rumor has it that Mike's drinking capacity rivals that of a thirsty camel at oasis time ... especially on Wednesday evenings (shades of Chicago Northside!) ... Tom Sweet has been commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Force to serve in navigator training at Mather AFB, California ... Tom "Sisko" Sisk skis, swims, and sells . . . real estate, that is, in Littleton, Colo., with his folks ... while the Cap'n is still steering a straight course in Washington working for a publishing company.
Again, that's all for news that's fit to print. Until the Ides of March ...
