Me hearty '73s -
Not much to report this month, me mateys . . . save news of a contributing scribe who will be invited each month by that conniving Cap'n courageous (commencing 12:00 hours, 20 June 1975) to share his or her views in the '73 column on the changing tides of our times. It is hoped that by this action, all me unfaithful followers will pick up a Mag and give it a persury glance, realizing that the Cap'n need not have (and indeed will not have) total taut control over the helm. Even He realizes that he may steer a few afar every now and then with his ramblings on, etc. No longer so. Implementation of the above plan will hopefully provide provocative insights into the growing problems of the day to which each of you are cordially invited to respond - and if both time and space allow, that response can and will be put into black and white. So now, me fine feathered flock, the Cap'n will no longer be accused of scrutinous acts on the high seas!
As for the news . . . the Harvard Journal onLegislation has taken pleasure in announcing the selection of Jim Hinds to be its book review editor for volume 13. Me hopes Jim feels the same.
Tyrone Bird's alive and well and still living in Boston working with Texaco as a retail sales rep. Seems as though experiences with the Green Bay Packers were all but enjoyable. His future plans to attend law school in September are promising, though, and expectations to hit the books soon are dancing in his head.
Preparations are (at this very writing) underway to give Tom Beckmann "the time of his life" at a farewell "bon voyage" party to be given in his honour moments before holy wedlock come next August. "Doc" Adam has informed me that he will enjoy reading aloud only ten or eleven of his most cherished love sonnets. "Chicken Fingers" (or is it "ChickenLips"?) Jones will orate a few passages from his Case Western Law Review article. "Mabes" Maybury will serve as head bartender _ Blackberry Flips being among his most celebrated concoction. "T.D." Dewiand will quietly roam the confines of the ceiling spreading tidings of great joy to the tune of Zorba the Greek. While the Cap'n will keep a heavy hand on the firewood that feeds the fire which burns in the fireplace ... all to be certain that the room is well cared for. Thus, me thinks Mr. Beckmann will be in good hands with his oldtyme buddies.
As for the rest of me mates . . . where are all those wavestrewn bottles? The summer months are soon approaching, and, as you might recall, no columns appear on a regular basis. So let's get on the stick, and send in a few whereabouts. Please also remember Jim Sullivan's request for both PARTICIPATION and INVOLVEMENT in this year's Alumni Fund. Remember: the future of Dartmouth remains in us all. It's not often that the Cap'n gets sentimental. But it's times like these that warrant such feeling. Keep a stiff neck, but a kind heart. As usual,
