Social notes from Harry Casler, Dartmouth's Irish connection: "Rosemary and I had Rusty Morrill with us for a couple of visits this summer. Just yesterday (September 23) Janet and Arch Clark pulled in for luncheon. They and another couple are on tour in Ireland, golfing here and there as well. Early this week the phone rang, only to reveal the mellifluous (?) voice of Bill Doran, conveying greetings to us from our Washington-area collegues - a most happy surprise. As for Anne and CharlieMcDonough, habitual gypsies on the move among New York, Dublin, and Spain, their absence from our doorstep this season has been something we deplore; yet perhaps the autumn will witness their return. Red Holme indicated he would be dropping in from London and other European parts, but no further word. That's about it. Vote early and often."
Herm Schneebeli, retiring as a member of Congress and ranking minority member of the House Ways and Means Committee, was honored at a testimonial dinner in Williamsport at which Fred Scribner was the principal speaker. I'm sure the key words were ability and integrity. Fred Bernhardt has been named visiting professor specializing in financial management at Fredonia State College. Fred taught previously at Canisius College, Rochester Institute of Technology, Akron and American Universities. Simons & French Inc. is now a division of Ed Zimmerman Sales Inc., with offices in Fort Lee, N.J., and Bud will continue as an activė officer of this new company.
Chuck Austin and Helena Dowd were married in June, and we welcome her to membership in the Class. Merle Kimball's grandson Douglas '76, son of Leonard '56, is the first 'third-generation '30 to graduate from Dartmouth. ArtBrown called the other day out of the blue (meaning Pompano Beach), and we chatted at length about the good old days on the fourth floor of New Hamp. His business career included P & G, Leominster Plastics, and Revlon. No commitment for our 50th, but our conversation was so enjoyable that I hope he will be there.
Word from Bill Fieldcamp: "Had fully planned to make the reunion but it was necessary to have a total right hip prosthesis this spring and the doctor took a dim view of our proposed motor trip from Houston. Everything worked out fine physically, but it hasn't improved my rather poor golf game. We're well and happy. Hope to make the next reunion." Members in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia got together a second time in 1976 at the Van Leer's summer place on the Severn river near Annapolis. Those who enjoyed the buffet luncheon and boat ride past the Naval Academy were Margaret and Merrill Hayes, Margaret and Bill Doran, Marge and Burt Sherwood, Polly and Willard Brown, Dita and Win Hatch, Lois and George Porter, Ferdi and George Kisevalter, Jack Smith, and Grace and Wayne Van Leer. It was great to receive greetings by phone from Meade Alcorn during the party.
When at a loss for column words, I become provincial, and therefore I report that Charlotte and Alan '68 have a new daughter Alyssa. They live in Marblehead, and Alan is press secretary for Governor Dukakis. Classmates with second addresses may wish to have them recorded for other classmates' use. If so, send them to me and I will issue an addendum to the May class directory. At no increase in rate, Harry Condon is offering the opportunity to be a dues-paying member of 1930. We hope you will respond.
