S. Michael Nadel is on the firing line, and from all indications, he loves it. Mike has been promoted to first assistant counsel to New York State's embattled Governor Carey. He's the youngest person ever to hold this top post, which involves daily contact with the Governor on nearly all issues, including the fiscal crisis New York has been fighting to forestall.
The road to the statehouse led from Columbia Law School and Army legal service, through stints as assistant district attorney in New York County and assistant to the Deputy Mayor of New York City to the Governor's legal staff. Now if Carey gets the Vice Presidential nod... who knows?
Out in Colorado Springs where government spending problems are far fewer, Mike Bromley has become a partner in the law firm of Cole, Hecox, Tolley, Edwards & Hero. Mike and Rebecca are expected their second child in June, and 20-month Christopher is expecting his first sibling.
Paul Murphy, manager of cost analysis for the installation and service engineering division of General Electric in Schenectady, N.Y., has been awarded a certificate in management accounting by the Institute of Management Accounting of the National Association of Accountants. All that means Paul's been doing outstanding work for GE and has passed a rigorous five-part exam.
He's experienced, having joined the GE financial management program in 1969 after earning an MAT in Social Sciences from Harvard, and serving as a corporate traveling auditor and a budgets and financial analysis specialist. Paul and Carol have two sons, Thaddeus (for the Dean?) 7, and Kevin, 1.
Henry Art has been promoted to associate professor of biology at Williams College, an institution he joined in 1971 with an MA and a Ph.D. from Yale in hand. Henry is assistant director for research at the Williams Center for Environmental Studies and for the past two summers he has directed projects funded by the National Science Foundation on the use of the New England Forest as a renewable energy resource and energy self-sufficiency in Williamstown.
Lee Sandler, formerly a senior trial attorney with the Customs Section of the Justice Department, has joined the New York law firm of Freeman, Meade, Wasserman, Sharfman & Schneider.... Greg Eden's Omaha, Nebraska, law firm has even a longer list of partner names - Kutak, Rock, Cohen, Campbell, Garfinkle & Woodward.... And if you need change of a five in Lagos, Nigeria, ask for David Hightower at the local First National City Bank Office.
