Eugene, Ore. As we write this, we've been on the road in Obie II for nearly six weeks, and not much mail has caught up with us. The Pony Express did get through with the word that on May 6, at the 611th meeting of the Northeastern Section of the American Chemical Society, Frank Westheimer was awarded the Theodore William Richards Medal "for conspicuous achievement in chemistry." This is one of a succession of professional honors that have been bestowed on Frank, who holds the Morris Loeb Chair of Chemistry at Harvard. He has received honorary doctor of science degrees from Dartmouth (1961) and the University of Chicago (1973), the James Flack Norris Award in Physical Organic Chemistry (1970), and the Willard Gibbs Medal (1970).

Jay Whitehair overtook us with a dispatch indicating Bill Morton continues very much in the news - this a front page New York Times piece reporting an interview with Bill in his capacity as chairman of a panel of New York bankers advising New York State during its fiscal crisis. His comments were cited as the most positive statement anyone from the investment community had made that the state would succeed in its critical spring financing effort. The amount the state was seeking was a mere $2.75 billion.

Mike Cardozo and Ed Marks give us a report on a festive luncheon that took place at a midcity Washington restaurant on March 24: "The alumni office in Hanover lists 22 members of the Class of '32 in the area, and notices of the luncheon went to all of them. Fifteen actually attended, along with the wives of seven. It was a cheerful bunch of youthful grandfatherly types, who enjoyed the reunion so much that we decided to accept Leon Warner's invitation to a picnic on his cattle farm in Virginia on May 15. Practically everyone expressed the intention of being in Hanover in June as well. Attending the luncheon were Don McPhail, the Bill Bristers,Jildo Cappio, Paul Leach, the Jack Mcßaes, the Leon Warners, the Joe Fanellis, the Mike Cardozos, the Jim Wakelins, Howie Wile, the BobMcGuires, Carl McGowan, Ed Marks, JohnWeissenfluh, and the beleaguered U. S. Elections Commissioner, Tom Curtis. The aphorism of the day was, 'Whom Dartmouth has joined together, even the politics of 1976 cannot put asunder.' "

Before leaving home we had a card from PaulFox telling us that he and June will be at Reunion, "looking forward to a reunion with no duties to perform." Ping Ferry too will be in Hanover for the June 14-16 celebration.

That's just about the time this column will be reaching your mailing address. We hope it will lie fallow in your mailbox because you're in Hanover.

As you are well aware, John Zimmerman and his reunion giving committee and Bob Ackerberg and his class agents are doing a great job. Don't forget the Alumni Fund deadline is June 30. Have a great summer:
