Linda and the two boys, Brian, four, and Kevin, two, should become quite expert in Japanese culture.

Closer to home it’s been a busy and reward- ing year for Thorton Jordan. He defended his dissertation on “The Psychological Framework of Emerson’s Life and Works” for Indiana University and received his Ph.D., was promoted to associate professor at Columbus (Ga.) College, and in June married Sue Johnson of Indianapolis. Not a bad year at all.
Larry Herbst is in the enviable position of be- ing a house fellow in a Vassar dorm, primarily because he is a tenured assistant professor in the Department of Economics there. His disserta- tion on U.S. Antebellum Interregional Trade will be published this spring.
Henry Art is associate professor of biology and acting director of the Center for En- vironmental Studies at lovely Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. Hank reports that Larry Forcier has now become assistant dean in the School of Natural Resources at the Univer- sity of Vermont.
Rick King comes from a Dartmouth Family. Father Gordon is a ’39 and brothers Bob ’7O and Alan ’74 recent graduates. And with those big changes in the College’s admission policy, Rick’s daughter Alec will probably become a ’92. Meanwhile Rick has parlayed an M.B.A. from Columbia and three years in the Navy into a position as v.p.-general manager of the direct sales division of Hanover Shoe, Inc., based in his hometown of Hanover, Pa.
The Human Resources Network is a Philadelphia-based consulting firm that assists big corporations in developing socially responsi- ble programs. David Johnston is a vice president there, and his wife, Hera Cohn-Haft, is in her third year of medical school.
When Bob Serenbetz transferred from Colgate-Palmolive’s New York office to Columbia two years ago, he was forced to learn Spanish, which he now speaks muy bien. Now he’s moved to Colgate’s Canadian company as director of marketing, and with bi-lingual com- munication the rule, he’ll have to brush up on his francais tout de suite. For Karen, Todd, eight, Gregg, six, and Katy, three, the past few years have proved exciting and broadening.
After designing, building, and running a branch plant in West Virginia, Barry Ripley and family are back at Troy Mills Inc. headquarters in Troy, N.H., where he is technical director for the manufacturer of nonwoven and coated fabrics.

Commander Ed Long are both at- tending the Naval Postgraduate School, Paul working toward a master’s in operations research and Ed getting one in financial management.
Wayne and Kathy LoCurto have four daughters Jeanne, ten, Anne, eight, Carolyn, five, and Susan, four and all enjoy life around Westport, Conn., near the new corporate offices of the Vicks Health Care Division of Richardson-Merrell, Inc., where Wayne is marketing manager in charge of a number of cold-remedy products.
A brief update on our legal establishment: Bob Booms is a member of the Denver firm of Reynard & Booms, and for three years has been chairman of the A.C.L.U. of Colorado as well as an active participant in Denver Republican Party affairs. ... Ed Dailey is staff director and chief counsel of the Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Council, a regulatory agency trying to balance environmental concerns with energy needs. . . . Also in Boston, Mark Budnitz is executive director of the National Consumer Law Center, Inc., which provides assistance to legal-aid lawyers and represents low-income citizens.
Rick Read recently was named associate general counsel of the Interstate Commerce Commission. . . . Lee Sandler has opened a law firm, Sandler & Travis, with offices in New York and Miami specializing in U.S. customs law and international trade. ... In Portland, Ore., Jeff Rogers has started a law firm with two other former assistant U.S. Attorneys, Ransom, Rogers & Blackman, that will emphasize litiga- tion and criminal defense. Wife Kris will soon return to the U.S. Attorney’s Office from maternity leave, since Karin is almost one year old.
And speaking of one-year-old people, my daughter Maggie has celebrated her first, and, strangely, one of her favorite pastimes is pound- ing on the typewriter. Wonder where she got that?
