Over the New Year's holiday the family and I went skiing in Vermont. Also got a chance to go to Hanover where the winter scene still has a picturebook quality to it. The change of pace did us all a lot of good.

It is now official. Our new head agent will be Jim Bovaird. Jim is presently vice president with White, Weld & Co., Inc., as well as a member of the board of governors of the Winnetka Community House. As is usual with busy and competent people, Jim has another major job on his hands next spring — running a major capital gifts campaign for the Community House. Let's make the Class of '51 job easy for him by working on the campaign and by contributing as much as you can as early as you can. The thanks of the Class go out to you, Jim, for taking on this difficult but rewarding job.

Another and very important appointment, has been announced by Buck Scott. The new bequest chairman will be Dave Hilton — a superb choice for the position. Dave has been with the Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company for the past 19 years and during that tenure has broken all kinds of sales records. It is great to have Dave as part of the class team.

Stretch Mulloy was in Hanover recently with daughter Karen who aspires to being a Dartmouth undergraduate. Stretch is a lawyer who spends a lot of time representing franchise businesses such as Dunkin Donuts. He serves on the school board in Media, Penn. Wife Kaye is an artist and a real estate broker.

At the 100 th anniversary of Texas A & M University, Dartmouth was represented by Dr.Edward Hazen. Ted has been at Texas A & M since 1972, and he is a chemistry professor.

From the University of Illinois, JeffO'Connell tells us he will be journeying to Austin, Tex., for the summer to teach at the University of Texas Law School. Jeff also gives us some insight into the dismissal of Bob Blackman at Illinois. "Many people at the University of Illinois were distressed at the firing of former Dartmouth football coach Bob Blackman after six years here. He did as well — indeed a little better than — his predecessors since 1912 during which time Illinois had only five coaches. I suppose his firing is a reflection of the cruel cost pressures on big-time college football, but Illinois always had a very balanced view of it. Rather like an Ivy League attitude: wanting to do respectably but not demanding more. And Blackman certainly did a respectable job here."

Franz Yeomans has been leading an interesting life since he left Hanover in June of '51. Along with Bill Rugg he had to report to the West Coast for his NROTC assignment. They took a month to get there. Franz served on the U.S.S. Bataan, a World War II carrier, off Korea. Then to Washington where he spent a year as a Russian linguist in the National Security Agency. While in Washington, to quote Franz, he "spotted a girl named Margaret Henderson (University of Florida '52) hanging around the coke machine and married her." Next came destroyer duty in the North Atlantic and first son Charles (Kenyon College '79). After resigning from the Navy Franz went into retail sales for Gulf Oil in Washington, D.C., and had second son David, who is Dartmouth 'BO. Four years later to Kordite Corporation, a plastics packaging firm in upstate New York and third child Elizabeth. For the past 17 years Franz has been with the plastics division of Mobil (Kordite was sold to Mobil) and presently is manager of marketing services. Franz says that he gets to Hanover occasionally and always enjoys it. "It's an eerie feeling to stand on the porch of the Inn and see your son come across the Green. I keep expecting to see old roommates and friends." Thanks for the update. How about the rest of you letting us in on your vocations and avocations.

A move from Hudson, Ohio, to Scottsdale, Ariz., was made by Dick Rogers in 1973. Wife Greta has an asthma problem and the move has been beneficial, reports Dick. He is now with Information Handling Service, an Indian Head Company, largest publisher of microfilmed technical information and library systems, with headquarters in Denver. Of four daughters, oldest now a jewelry maker after college, two in college, the youngest a high school freshman who loves horses and Arizona desert and mountain riding opportunities.

I want to wish you all a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year.
