Thanks to the reply postals, we have news.
Hugo Gumbart summered in North Carolina, and on the way back to his Florida home he missed visiting one of Asheville's distinguished citizens Dave Shumway, who was making his annual exploration of Canada. Hugo hinted that he is taking an active interest in bowling on the green.
Ken Ross, after his "vacation" in the hospital, had a spell of reminiscing that brought back memories of when he, his brother, and HerbKimball rode the Connecticut flood by canoe in Aprl 1914 and landed on Long Island. Oh! to be young again.
Dan Olson took to the air, touching down in West Bend, Wis., and Ormond Beach, Fla., visiting family.
Steve Harvey sends this enthusiastic comment about New Hampshire weather, 1977 variety: "It is the same bracing winter weather we had in the old days at Dartmouth — Mt. Monadnock is royal with its crown of snow."
Thanks to Dan Lindsley, we learn that Hollis Nickerson is not lost as was suspected when his reply postal came back blank. Hollis is among the winter people at Jacksonville Beach, Fla. Glad you cleared up this mystery, Dan.
Did you note in the copy of the "Bulletin" you received from Dartmouth, on the last page, in almost the last item, Fritz Hier's story about his young son, who enjoyed the lasagna sent to the Hier household by Mrs. Stearns (probably our Elsie)? Fritz's son suggested that perhaps his father (one of Hanover's purveyors of cord wood) should swap a cord of wood for a cord of lasagna.
On the list, just published by the Alumni Fund, are the names of 71 members of the Class of 1916 in whose memory gifts were made to the 1976 Fund.
With all the good news we now have to add two sad notes. Ray De Voe died January 16. BillHale died January 24. The Class sends its sympathy to Ray's wife Dorothy and their family and to Bill's wife Bess and their family. Memorials will appear in the obituary columns of coming issues of the Magazine.
Addresses of the men in the Class and the ladies of 1916 appeared in the February 1976 "Balmacaan." If you have mislaid your copy and wish for the address of any '16er, send your request to the secretary, and the address will be sent to you.
