The sting of a bitter winter was undoubtedly softened for Jerry Green by news of his promotion to executive vice president - international of J. I. Case Company. Jerry has management responsibility for Case worldwide activities including all Case subsidiaries, marketing operations and manufacturing plants outside the U.S. and Canada. He was previously group vice president and general manager of the Case International Division. Case makes agricultural and construction equipment overseas in England, France, West Germany, Spain, Brazil and Australia. Jerry joined Case in 1964 as assistant controller and has steadily moved up the corporate ladder.

Another Midwest promotion finds RobGoodell vice president of marketing for Beverage Management, Inc. of Columbus, Ohio. Rob's responsibilities include advertising, promotion, packaging, pricing and new products for the company. Rob's company is one of the major bottlers and marketers of 7-Up, Orange Crush and other soft drinks and distributes domestic and imported wines and beers. I am sure Rob would add that no free samples are available. Rob, his wife Ann-Shirley and their two sons, Gordon and Charles, reside in Upper Arlington, Ohio.

Received a newsy and welcome letter from Pete Friend's wife Fenton who writes from Wolfeboro, N.H., about Pete and some of their Dartmouth friends. They hear from WatThomas who lives in Pleasantville, N.Y., with his wife Jill and sons Scott and Keith. Son Keith recently won the 12-and-under national tennis indoor doubles tournament in Chicago. The Friends are also tennis buffs and played tennis with John and Ann Graf and their son Ted on Labor Day Weekend where the Lake Winnipesaukee winds were so strong that several of the balls crossed the net without benefit of racket. Pete is also a conoeist and with friends canoed down the St. John River. Pete's trip spurred his wife on to a camping trip of her own to Baxter State Park where she climbed Mt. Katahdin to the background applause of moose in the campground. Having each successfully soloed, the Friends are planning a joint camping trip this spring. They are fortunate enough to visit Hanover occasionally and have taken advantage of several fine Hopkins Center productions. That's the kind of news we need, Friends.

Owen Johnson heads the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Competition. That means he is in charge of the FTC's anti-trust investigation of the automobile industry, a probe that could lead to far-reaching changes in the biggest job-producing industry in the country. Owen, who took his law training at Oxford and Harvard, says that although the investigation is limited to anti-trust questions (enforcement of anti-trust laws is the FTC's prime function), the probe can take in a large number of industry practices.

I trust that all '58s and their families are surviving the winter and are looking forward to spring. Let's hear from you.
