You should have received your copy of the '42 Class Directory by now. It's the fifth edition and we published it to commemorate our 35th reunion which will take place in just two months from now on June 13-15. We hope as you leaf through the pages you will become inspired to "come back for this one!" After all, as I've said before in this column, how. many more are there to go to? You may as well pack in all the good times you can because, as the man says, we go by this way only once. Am I striking a gloomy note? I don't mean to. Reunions are a lot of fun and any pitch for your attendance should be a positive one. It's just that at this precise moment as I write this column I feel compelled to convince you to make the trip to Hanover in June by convincing you also that the man upstairs in charge of the big book with all our names in it is turning those pages faster and faster. Maybe I'm in this mood because I just finished reading again the page in the directory that lists our deceased classmates and it is still difficult for me to cope with the fact that we lost fifteen members of our Class in the last five years... nine in the last two years!

Turning to less unsettling statistics gleaned from the directory ... did you know that we have classmates living in all but three of the 50 states? (North Dakota, South Dakota, and Utah are barren of '425.) Did you know that more '42s (14) moved out of New York state than any other in the past five years? Did you know that California, Connecticut, and Florida sained the most '42s? (six each). And, to close out the directory stat department for the time being, out of the 581 members of the Class, 188 changed addresses to make for a 32 per cent rate of turnover.

Jim Farley, of the Windsor, Vt., Farleys, was recently elected president of Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center. Jim, as we all know, is assistant director of the News Service at Dartmouth. One of the co-founders of the Valley News, he continues to write a weekly column for the newspaper. He was also editor and assistant publisher of the Claremont DailyEagle.

Just received word of William T. Holmes's death on July 8, 1976. Bill lived in Verona, N.J., and his obituary appears in this issue.

Got a phone call from Class Treasurer JimO'Mara who wants me to tell all members of the Class who have received additional invoices for class dues after they had paid them not to get excited. It's all due to the college computer which zigged when it should have zagged. You should be patient because you will soon receive another print-out apologizing for the error. (Of course, if it's still zigging, you may receive another invoice. Lots of luck!)

Usually, when I get a letter from a classmate with news about himself and others I paraphrase and edit it. But, the one I received from R.R. "Bud" Hummel is so concise and informative that I am giving it to you just as I received it: "I haven't contacted you in the longest time. Unfortunately, what prompted me to do so now, is the sad news of Chick Emslie's death. Those of us who remember him knew him as a nice guy, and that's the way he stayed. He will be missed.

"As for news of myself - am still a custom house broker and foreign freight forwarder with added responsibilities as president of our national association the last two years. Plenty of problems keep me from growing old, and believe it or not, from getting gray as well! Our five children are spread around, with the two youngest still at home, ages 14 and 15. We finally got around to buying a 'place in the country last year and own the oldest house on Lake Morey, just around the lake from Bonnie Oaks, Enjoyed the summer there very much. Now the kids want us to winterize it for the future. Hanover is only 20 miles away.

"Frank Malavasic called me this fall from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He finally retired from government service. He and Marion and Mark are renting there for a year before deciding where to locate permanently, after all those years in Panama.

I see some of the other fellows on occasion. Frank Faruolo's son, Frank III, is the golf amP at our club, Wheatley Hills, again this year He has won before and can beat his father, or almost any other amateur the best day of their lives, and me, the worse day of his!

"Had lunch with two old friends, both '41 - they roomed together, Bob Darbee and Bill Cashel, to celebrate Bill's appointment to executive vice president of the parent A.T.&T. A real big job. Bill has been with the phone company ever since he was discharged from the Marine Corps back in 1945. Now he's way up there and hasn't changed one bit en route, nor has Bob for that matter.

"My wife and I are seriously considering attending reunion if it can be fitted into our hectic schedules. Hopefully we shall all be together again where once we enjoyed ourselves so much."
