Art Allen, busy as ever in Dartmouth affairs, sent us a note along with his 1976-77 life income giving letter which went to all classmates. As a member of this program, I highly recommend it and wish Art the very best of success in increasing our class participation in this important area of the bequest program. As has been reported by visiting officers of the College, Art has been very active in many important and worthwhile activities in Hanover.

Alex Christie, from nearby Boca Raton, has written to express his chagrin at being unable to attend our last year's reunions. Alex had a visit not too long ago from Marv Chandler, who was attending a meeting of a section of the American Management Association held in that same city.

George "Red" Hahn has written in to give us the good news that he has fully recovered from the orthopedic surgery which kept him from attending our fall reunion. He says, "I'm back to full schedule now, attended annual governor's meeting of the American College of Surgeons, involved in multiple committees of malpractice. Am currently president of the section on obstetrics-gynecology of the Pan American Medical Association, which just had its annual meeting, and I am hard at work writing the section on neoplastic diseases for a standard text in gynecology." Wow! That's quite a body of chores for you, Red - keep well!

George also sent me a program in which he is listed as the main lecturer for the 15th annual "Tumor Day" sponsored by Jefferson Medical College. I wonder how these learned doctors enjoyed their cocktail hour after four and a half hours of discussion on this heady subject?

Joe By ram writes in from Naples, Fla., where he plays a "poor game of golf - but love it, and follow the stock market higher and higher. I am becoming more and more a Jimmy Carter fan!" Joe has also sent in news of Ed d'Ancona, who has been living in Naples for several years. His address is 506 12th Ave. S., Naples, Fla. 33840. Ed has been doing some advertising and art work and is art director of the Naples Guide.

Bob Mitchell, editor of the Rutland Herald, one of the best small-city newspapers in the country, has sent us a number of clippings about his recent work. To do justice to his news, I have turned it over to our newsletter editor MarkShort, who may report in more detail later on.

Sam Englander, whose son John will graduate from Dartmouth this June and continue studies in engineering (similar to what his father did), reports from Hempstead, N.Y., that he met JimCorbett at a recent seminar given by M/L/P & Smith on the impact of the new tax laws. At this same meeting John Wolff served as the accountant representative on the panel of experts. Sam says that this discussion was "very educational, but not very heartening." Sam's daughter Susan is married to Lt. (j.g.) Robert Fraille, who is serving on a nuclear submarine, and they live in Groton, Conn. I understand that our prez JohnZimmerman entertained the Frailles at his home in nearby Stonington. I wonder if Lt. Fraille will meet up with Art Allen's son, Comdr. John Elton Allen, who is on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations at the Pentagon. Are there any other sons or daughters of classmates in the armed services?

How many of you recognized Chuck Adkins and Joe Barrington '31 in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE (December '76, page 25)? They were styling the vogue of short pants in 1930 in front of College Hall, and I vividly remember when the picture was taken. I wrote to Chuck asking his help in identifying others. Several looked familiar - especially the one second from the left. Chuck wrote back saying he could not help me out in this endeavor, but perhaps someone else can. Chuck is no longer living in Green Valley and has moved to 11 East Orange Grove Road in Tucson, Ariz. 85704. He missed our 45th reunion because of a strict regimen of exercises and diet to prevent a by-pass operation on his heart. He says, "I jog every day and have taken off forty pounds (but haven't yet gotten down to where I was in that December ALUMNI MAGAZINE photograph)." He reports that Charley Doerr was in Tucson to spend Christmas with his son, who is a dentist there. Other than Doerr, Chuck hasn't seen any other classmates outside of the ones listed as living in Green Valley - namely Eddie Toothaker, JohnSwenson, and Lawrence Burtis.

Our new, hard-working class agent LeonWarner has reported good progress on the Alumni Fund. At this stage of the game in life it is important to have complete class participation. It is not only the amount of your contribution that counts, but the showing of your love and appreciation for what Dartmouth has meant in each of our lives by participating in the Fund and cooperating with Leon.

Your obedient servant,
