John Lee in a letter to Bert MacMannis recounts his return to the United States after 30 years abroad. He can be permanently found at 914 East Lemon St., Tempe, Ariz. 85281. But he has taken off for the summer, touring, apparently for the fun of it. Where, you say? Well, back in Europe, of course.

Robb DeGraff, in planning his retirement from Du Pont at the end of this year, has bought a home (on the golf course) at Atlantic, Fla. It's about 15 minutes from Palm Beach. Wife Pat, who had to deal with an aneurism some time back, is now fine and ready for Robb's retirement.

The class executive committee convened April 14 at the offices of its president, Bert MacMannis. In attendance were Wells Bates,Hank Conkle, Jim Corner, Jack Coulson, WaltDarby, Cornie Miller, Dusty Rohde, Endy Smith and Bill Webster. I don't know where the other guys were, but your scribe was lanquishing in Bermuda in what we describe as a well-deserved rest period. Miller's treasurer's report recounted a slippage in dues payers, 304 versus 341 in '76. Expenses run close to forecast and our assets total $35,513.99, looking toward our 40-year class gift to the college of $40,000. Coulson reported that contributions in memory of 15 classmates deceased in '75-76 season totalled $1,995. Jack's wife Billie has agreed to write a column reporting on class widows for inclusion in the class newsletter. Bates reported that organization for 40th reunion is being solidified. O'Brien Boldt reported in absentia that 17 classmates have agreed to write pieces for the 40th Reunion Book which he edits. Nothing final yet on the nature of the 40-year gift, but this was discussed again, and a promise was made that the matter will be resolved at our fall reunion gathering. Corner reported on Alumni Fund progress. Sixty-one agents are working with Jim, and we'll withhold interim figures in view of the advance deadline of this piece. BobHowe also reported in absentia that his major gift committee (which appears to be made up of the executive committee) is under way, and Moreau Brown revealed that he is hustling the companies who are willing to match classmates' contributions. Plans are afoot to organize a widow's committee whose primary charge would be closer communications. More on this to be discussed at the fall committee meeting. Bob Kaiser forwarded his bequest report which sums up to the fact that '39 is doing as well as its contemporaries. Webster, who has taken over for Larry Vulte as our photography chairman, is calling for slides of classmates. Sam Hird is planning a massive entertainment feature for this fall. Coulson has promised a movie show. Web's address is Boulder Rd., Box 148, Old Saybrook, Ct. 06475. And finally, it was officially confirmed that our fall reunion would be September 23-24 for the Holy Cross game, with headquarters as usual at Bonnie Oaks. This year, however, the Averys are shutting down their kitchen by late September, so our meals will be taken at the nearby Lake Morey Inn. Join the outing. It is always a good time.

Herb Hirschland was named president of M&T Chemicals Inc., a subsidiary of American Can Company in early March. This is a return to the same post Herb held 1969-71 before he held a series of major executive posts in technology and development at American Can. Herb first joined M&T in 1941 and has been a member of the board of directors since 1964. He is also a member of the board of Inolex Corporation and is a vice president of the American Shakespeare Theater in Stratford, Ct.

Zeke Hill is at it again with his new book Lake Champlain: Key to Liberty. It is a 320-page panoramic history of the lake and its region, with nearly 200 black-and-white and full-color illustrations. It was published April 1. The occasion commemorates both the 200th anniversary of Vermont's independence and the 150th birthday of the Burlington Free Press, with whose association the book was published, after having been serialized in that paper. Zeke still holds down his post as senior editor of Vermont Life along with his distinguished writing career.

This column will be our last for the season, September's issue being reserved for the reunion classes. We apologize for not having published all the address changes which have come our way since the beginning of the year, but we do stand ready to pass on our latest to any classmate who cares to request same at the address in the column head. Until next October, when we hope to see many of you at the Holy Cross game. . . .
