As you already have read, the class meeting last fall voted to use money from the memorial fund to support the production of an opera at the Hopkins Center. Peter Smith has announced that The Merry Wives of Windsor will be performed on May 26 and May 28. We hope to have a good representation from the Class on hand. You'll hear more on this from RegBankart in the "Tear Bag." It would be a fine time to be in Hanover!
The picture you see nearby appeared in the Winter Carnival issue of The Dartmouth. DickHube looks very composed as the king of the Silver Anniversary Carnival with a beautiful queen and the messenger of the gods, Norb Hofman '36.
Here at Eastman we recently had a delightful weekend with the "Ski for Light" program for blind skiers supported by the Sons of Norway. Hank and Lou Hawkins were on hand, as Lou is a director of the New Hampshire Association for the Blind and was very helpful in staging the event.Special thanks, too, to Don and Lucia Ballantyne '36.
Still another new retiree is Jack Kingery in Winnetka. He is so impressed with the "torrid prose" (or was it "horrid"?) of our class treasurer that he wishes Hall were "around to advise on the care and feeding of the newly retired."
Maynard Rogers has just retired as land agent for the Indiana State Highway Commission. He plans to return to his original profession as a petroleum geologist. Expect great things from him in finding and producing some crude oil!
Bob Richter retires from the vice presidency of ASARCO on April 28. He has ambitious plans for reducing his golf handicap, resuming interest in the piano, reading the classics, and traveling. Sounds like he and Audrey are ready for the big change!
Another new retiree with his eye on improving his golf, is Dave Williams. He quit work on December 30 and has moved to Stuart, Fla., for the winter. Dave attended a golf school "for seniors" and, we assume, has been fishing and cruising all winter when not out on the fairways.
Doug and Millie Hamilton spent the winter in Florida. He writes of attending the meeting of the Dartmouth Club of Southwest Florida along with Ed O'Brien and hearing President Kemeny. Will be back in Gatlinburg, Tenn., in the summer.
Southern climate agrees with the golf of another classmate, John Mayo, in Myrtle Beach. Paid his class dues and added the comment, "Golf okay. Shot 78 on Saturday." Be advised, and be wary if you get in touch with him!
And if you're in that part of the country, call Earl Arthurs in Charlotte. He has recently heard from Bud Hulett and Dick Montgomery and would like to see any classmates who are nearby.
Life near Hanover has got to be one of the pleasantest an alumnus can have. Just one recent example was dinner with Henrietta and BobHage before the last hockey game of the season. Our loyal group of season-ticket-holder classmates rallied 'round at their home. By the way, who won?
Reminders: Alumni Fund needs your attention! Fall Reunion, October 6 and 7.
Here, for memories' sake, are 1935 Silver Anniversary Carnival King Dick Hube '35(left), Queen Pauline Webster of Detroit, and Messenger of the Gods Norbert Hofman '36.
