Mannie Sprague, our class agent, and his enlarged group of more than 60 regional agents and assistant class agents have been at work since April 1 and before on the 1978 Dartmouth Alumni Fund. The total goal of $5,000,000 represents an increase of $400,000 over the 1977 campaign goal and an increase of $284,265 over the 1977 campaign receipts. The 1933 goal is $60,800 or $5,300 over the 1977 goal of $55,500, which represents the approximate amount by which our 1977 receipts exceeded our 1978 goal.
All gifts and pledges received as of March 17, 1978, since the close of last year's Fund, are very encouraging. A total of $1,947,877 has been received from 7,113 donors, representing an increase in donors of 947, compared with last year. 1933 is again doing well with receipts of $29,115, an increase of $ 1,396 over last year at the same time and about 48 per cent of our goal. The number of contributors is four over last year, for a total of 90.
By the time you read these class notes, the campaign will be at the half-way mark and hopes should be running high. Let's try to improve our 85.1 per cent participation of last year and again surpass our dollar goal by 120 per cent or more. Remember that all gifts and pledges have to be in by June 30, and we hope that for each of you there will be a continued increase in your contributions to the Alumni Fund.
The annual class officers weekend was held April 28-29 and will be reported upon by BobFox in a subsequent class newsletter. We regret not being able to attend, but we remain here in Florida until about June 1.
Remember that if you and your family are planning to spend a part of your vacation at the Alumni College, scheduled for August 6-17, 1978, in Hanover, you had better apply promptly, since space is limited and early applications are encouraged.
