As we enter on our 56th year as alumni, those of us who attended the 55th reunion are still talking about what a success it was, and letters are still coming in from many who could not attend, expressing their regret that they could not be there. The "24-Hour Notice" and the September issue of the MAGAZINE have given a complete account of what went on and given credit to those responsible for the arrangements; also, accolades to Earl Daum for the recordbreaking Alumni Fund total and to Dave Dyche and Harry Holmlund for the outstanding endowment record.

After reunion, Chinee Allen sent to the 123 class widows a letter and a copy of the program from the class memorial service. We are sure that it was greatly appreciated by those who received it, and we compliment Chinee on the handling of the memorial book program. It is not an easy job.

Pete and Alma Wheatley were hosts on July 20 to a group of 150 family, friends, and neighbors, at their home in Abington, Mass., in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary. It was a beautiful summer day, with a tent providing shade for a delightful buffet and cocktails. A Dartmouth weather vane, the gift of neighbors, can now be seen atop the Wheatleys' garage. The class was represented by the Van Huycks, members of the wedding party 50 years ago, the Arnold Jenkinses, Beatie Adams (accompanied by Trippy), and the Bents. The Wheatleys followed up the celebration with a trip north; they retraced the route of their honeymoon and stopped, as would be expected, in Hanover en route.

The Nilsens returned to Sarasota in late August after spending the summer in Andover, Mass., as they have done for the past several years. They have since been on a trip to Lake Lugano and on a tour of Normandy and Brittany.

We read with interest the article in the June issue of the MAGAZINE, written by Doris Bowers, wife of Seward Bowers; her article reflects the thinking of many of us. It is also evidence of the interest of Dartmouth wives in alumni affairs. We have also learned that the Bowerses accompanied Professor Major on the Alumni College trip to China.

Ralph Richardson was recently presented with a plaque by the Massachusetts Moderators Association in honor of 51 years of service as moderator of his home town of Ayer, Mass.

An enjoyable gathering in August at the summer home of the Holmlunds in Falmouth included the Jenkinses, the Wheatleys, and the Bents. The Holmlunds have returned to Green Valley and later in the fall leave for a month- long stay in Hawaii.

About the time these notes are published, the fall weekend will have taken place, and, even at this early date, we are confident that it will be a success, as usual. There will also be a meeting of the newly-elected class executive committee that weekend. Hope we will have seen many of you there.
