To open on a personal note, thank you to those who gave me the opportunity to write this column during the past year. Special appreciation to everyone who took time to write. The column will resume in September. Make a note to send some news to your class secretary this summer.
Remember when John Armstrong was selling sandwiches in the dorms? Time passes. I just caught John as he and Marcia were leaving for two weeks in Europe. They were meeting their daughter and her husband, who both have Thomas Watson Fellowships to study the geology of Europe. Proud father tells me his daughter graduated from the University of Colorado in three years and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
While in Washington, D.C., during spring vacation, Lona and I had brunch with Tom andJean Jackson. The Jacksons were looking forward to some summer sailing on the Chesapeake. The only thing prettier than the spring flowers at the Chevy Chase Club was Jean's smile. Tom's legal business has recently taken him into the complex and growing area of professional responsibility problems. He mentioned encountering Ron Swart, who is currently on assignment in the Pentagon with the United States Navy.
We also managed to sip a drink with Owenand Shea Johnson. Owen is the squire of Potomac, M.D. When we arrived, we found him sweat-drenched from pruning his numerous trees and bushes. Clever as always, Owen had arranged to spend several winter weeks in Florida working on a case in the Daytona Beach area.

If you have not already done so, dig deep for the Alumni Fund in our reunion year. Special thanks to the tireless Joel Portugal and his terrific team of class agents.
About the time that you read this, my family and I will be in Hanover for reunion. I hope the sun will shine on gleaming Dartmouth Row as old friends rejoice in renewing acquaintances and sharing memories. The only constant in life is that everything changes. Dartmouth changes, one hopes for the better. With wise counsel and continued alumni support, the cherished values can be preserved to meet new challenges and new times.
