During class officers weekend in Hanover in early May, it was learned that our class president, Hank McCarthy, will have been presented with the Thayer School's Robert Fletcher Award at the annual banquet of the Dartmouth Society of Engineers on May 23. (It was, we gathered, to have been a surprise to Hank.) The award is made each year "to recognize distinguished achieve- ment and service in the highest tradition of the Thayer School." The warmest congratulations from the class, Hank.

Our 50th reunion will be June 12-14, 1981. If you're planning on attending and wish to stay at the Hanover Inn, please write immediately and get on their waiting list.

We've heard from some classmates:

Jack Bean: "We have been going to the Half Moon Hotel in Montego Bay, Jamaica, for 30 years, and I have a nice little business in Kingston."

Irv Bettman: "It has been a slow and dull winter up here. The lack of any useful snow considerably changed our activities, and not for the better. I'm still active as a track official and the alumni representative on the College Budget Council. Lucy Cogswell is in good shape and, I'm sure, will serve the class excellently as treasurer. She is a most capable and interested person."

Dave Borkum: "I speak to Doug Woodring fairly often. He asked me to act as head class agent for eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In that capacity I correspond with six classmates who are helping me Johnny Ben-son, Jim Frame, Charlie Dwyer, Ken Sampson,Art Birkett, and Bob Dickey. Anne and I are planning on attending the Hanover Holiday on June 9-11."

Red Gristede phoned April 16. His second hip operation went much better than the first, and in less than six weeks he was walking with a cane.

Si Leach: "I am getting use out of your stamp! Still in Florida until April 20 and then back to Winnipeg. Will be completely retired from business activities on May 1 with excep- tion of Uniroyal of Canada. They have been good to Dartmouth in their matching gifts, so it's good to linger a year! Have golfed with Matty Matteson and Bob Wallace, was rained out of a game involving them and Jack Leuthner. Have also met Jeanette (Mrs. William) Easterbrook, widow of Ed Sieminski of lacrosse fame. She remains an ardent Dart- mouth fan and contributor to the Alumni Fund and is a good golfer. Forsha Russell and BobOelman both send greetings from here."

John Martin: "Nothing new in this depart- ment, except my reappointment to the Federal Council on Aging by President Carter. Previous appointments by Ford and Nixon suggest the bi-partisan nature of the job. Legislative work with the Association of Retired Persons goes on as usual, aiming at fair and equitable treatment of our older citizens."

Cliff McDonald: Sue and I are stretching our Florida vacation to two months this year to see how we enjoy it, and arrived in Ocean Ridge the last day of January. We attended the '3l gathering hosted by Si Leach and Bill Schulden-frei at Si's home on February 12. It was a great party . . . over 40 people . . . most of whom went out to dinner together. The Bensons had planned to come over from Naples for the event, but John was stricken with a bad cold at the last minute."

Sid Rubin: "Henny and I have been traveling a bit. Our last trip in February was to Costa Rica. Our travels are about the only bit of news worth mentioning. Henny and I both enjoy good health, and I practice law on a limited basis."

Tower Snow: "After my laryngectomy in December 1979, our son Tower Jr. '69 and his wife asked us to move up to the Bay area, and we did in April. Have a new townhouse condo in Walnut Creek with a golf course across the street. Play four to five days a week. Our daughter Sally also moved to this area this year and works in San Francisco. So have all our family near each other again. I can talk very well at a one-to-one level with my Westing- house artificial larynx, but no good in a large group. Doubt if we'll make the 50th."

Jack Weisert: "We plan a trip in April to Paris and then on to the Hague where Ilona has a sister. I am quite unhappy about running into all the traffic and general confusion that Beatrix's investiture will bring, but Ilona is delighted to be there then and that is more im- portant than any unhappiness of mine about traffic."

Marty Zinn: "I had thought someone was updated as to my poor health last fall, and the varied visits to hospitals starting in June. Had to have a colostomy, two procedures, in order to avoid cancer; but it was not good for my emphysema. Have had complications since, in- cluding ulcerative esophogitis. We are hoping to make the 50th. We returned Friday from a two-week vacation in Tucson at one of the resort ranches. Unfortunately, I spent five days in a hospital there . . . pneumonia bug; and my sister who met us there spilled out of her wheelchair and ended up there too."

Have a great summer.
