Seen under the elms in front of Baker Library for the inauguration of the College's new president in June were numerous 1920s and their wives. Names are omitted for fear of leaving someone out. It was a grand affair as the presidency changed hands and presidential chairs. One of the highlights of the occasion was the awarding of the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters to Jean Kemeny, author of that wellknown volume It's Different at Dartmouth. A great tribute to Hanover's charming former first lady.
George "Gugger" Fiske in Seminole, Fla., sent me an interesting note containing a list of the ten oldest alumni of Babson College in Wellesley, Mass. In the middle of the list was recorded George A. Fiske '23. Congrats to "Gugger," born January 16, 1897.
Hib Richter was a welcome visitor to the Hanover area in August. A dedicated Shriner, he came for the annual Shriners parade and Vermont-New Hampshire high school all-star football game. (The Vermonters were defeated by New Hampshire, 21-0.) While Hib was here, he entertained Bill and Laura Carter and Hazel Macomber for dinner at the Norwich Inn. Hazel had been visiting atop Crotched Mountain, but drove back to the Upper Valley to join us. This is but one of the many blessings associated with our transfer of residence from Arizona to the Hanover area.
As I write this, freshmen are appearing and will soon disperse on their scheduled Outing Club trips to become better acquainted with our lovely New England terrain.
Soon football will dominate the local scene. Any classmate who plans to attend Dartmouth's home games, please note the following: Classdesignated tables will be provided by the College inside the Leverone Field House; bring your own food and liquid refreshers or you may be able to buy them from a local source (we are carrying our own!).
Our class has been invited to take advantage, with 1922, of the Lutheran Church parking lot only a short walk from the Leverone Field House. The Rev. John Lemkul hopes 1920's will avail themselves of these parking facilities. They are located on a connector street (Summer) between South Park Street and Lebanon Street. A modest parking fee benefits the adjoining student center. Just inside the church edifice itself are "facilities" which parkers may use. Adios, amigos.
