Our congratulations to the College and its recently announced new president. It appears to have been a most worthy choice that augurs well for the future of Dartmouth.
The month of April is a fairly prolific one in the number of birthdays accruing to our surviving members. Ken Clark advances to 91 on the 3rd, Rick Castle to 92 on the sth, and Harold Burtt to 91 on the 26th.
In mid-February, Dave Orr, associate secretary, who supervises reunions, reported that replies received in response to our letter of December 1, 1980, indicated a possible attendance of eight to ten members of the 1911 family at our 70th reunion in June. More complete details will be available in a mailing to be sent out during March.
A note received from Don Cheney in late January on stationery of the Orange County Historical Society reads, "At our annual meeting this month I finally retired as president and am now 'emeritus.' I still will be active and plan to build a second addition to the museum, for which I have developed the plans and am raising the funds, $225,000. Hope to see you at Hanover in June!" A clipping from the Orlando Sentinel Star some two weeks earlier reported Don recovering from a fall in which he fractured a couple of ribs. It stated, "He's okay. Just don't make him laugh, please." It couldn't have been too serious as Don made no mention of it.
Charlie Jordan was not so fortunate. In early February he suffered a severe fall (in addition to frequent minor ones), which resulted in a brief hospitalization and his currently being confined to a wheelchair and attendant nursing under the capable supervision of his loyal wife. But despite his problems, Charlie remains mentally alert and enjoys brief sessions with his cherished pipe.
Don Cheney and Charlie Jordan were recent recipients of pewter bowls awarded in recognition of continuous donations to the Alumni Fund for over 60 years.
