With only the final details to be ironed out, it's reasonably certain that Bob Lappin of Swampscott, MA, has acquired the Frankford Arsenal in Philadelphia for a top bid of $3 million. Bob is president of Shetland Properties in Salem, MA, and intends to develop the 86.4-acre historic site, abandoned by the U.S. Army in 1977, for commercial and industrial use. The site includes 167 buildings with 3,000,000 square feet of floor space. Bob received a chorus of congratulations from local officials. The date for passing papers on the property from the federal government's General Services Administration to Bob is set for October 20.

We are saddened to report the untimely death of Connie Longfield, wife of Chuck Longfield, of a heart seizure on June 22. She succumbed at their Shaker Heights, OH, home unexpectedly. She was 62 and a graduate of the University of Minnesota, and she had served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps' women's reserve. In addition to Chuck, she leaves a daughter, Kathy.

President McLaughlin has tapped Frank Hartmann as national chairman of the $ 16.5- million DCAC Facilities Project. The goal of the undertaking will be to upgrade the College's athletic facilities, including putting in snow-making at the Dartmouth Skiway and improving the tennis courts, the boathouse, and the basketball facilities.

And speaking of the Hartmanns, Hank and Margot played the senior golf circuit in Europe this past summer. They won the Leopold Cup in Belgium on the tour.

Two days after Baseball Commissioner Bowie Kuhn resigned in August, veteran sportscaster Red Barber mentioned National Baseball League President Chuck Feeney as a possible successor to Kuhn. But Chuck says it won't happen, and in the unlikely event his name came up, he wouldn't take it. He thinks the major league owners will pick somebody outside of baseball.

Contractor Jim Heenehan has finished construction of a Holiday Inn at Kissimmee, FL, near the entrance to Disney World, and is returning north again. Jim lives in New York City's Tudor City and has taken on another construction job for the Atlas Construction Company of Stamford, CT.

Ray Wolfe reports from Naples, FL, that he's joined the real estate firm of Coldwell, Banker, McFadden and Sprowls Inc., effective June 27, and is actively promoting business opportunities and selling property throughout southwest Florida, the fastest growing area of the nation.

Pres Brooks, the Cincinnati, OH, banker who did such an outstanding job on the retirement panel during the class's 40th reunion in June, reports that he and Ellen have moved permanently to South Dennis, MA, and that they expect to make the '43 mini-reunion during the Cornell football game weekend in Hanover October 22.

John Robinson, who retired last year as president of New Jersey Blue Shield, writes from his new summer home in South Chatham, MA, that he missed the 40th reunion in June because of a misplaced garment bag. By the time the oversight was discovered, it was too late to embark again. Robbie and his family intend to divide their time between their Cape Cod home and their permanent residence in Upper Montclair, NJ.

The final accounting still is to be tallied, but Andy Caffrey, treasurer of 1943's 40th reunion, reports that the class came out of the June festivities in the black. Andy will turn the bank balance over to Class Treasurer Bob Clark, who lives in Keene, NH. Popular Bob will be sending out class dues notices in the next month or so.
