The newsletter at the end of the year brought some interesting replies, so we will pass them along for all classmates to peruse and enjoy.
Mark Emerson, Gwynedd Valley, Pa.: "Still climbing mountains. Barbara and I went camping in the Great Smokies last June. It was a wildflower expedition organized by the North Carolina Botanical Garden, with easy climbs along lovely, forested, mountain trails. Later in the summer spent two weeks at 'August Camp' of the Appalachian Mountain Club up in the White Mountains. Did only the shorter climbs but greatly enjoyed getting back up in my New Hampshire mountains. Following that there was a reunion for Friends of the Dartmouth Outing Club at the Moosilauke Ravine Lodge. Having lived on Moosilauke for a summer 60 years ago (!) as a hutman at the old Summit Camp, that's my favorite mountain, so I went over. Didn't think I could climb it now but decided to walk up the trail a ways and eat my lunch beside Gorge Brook. Took it easy and rested often on the steep places and, to my surprise and delight, made the summit without difficulty. It was great to get back up there again and see that glorious view of the Franconias and the Presidential Range."
Jack Norris, New London, N.H.: "Ellie and I took the Alumni College Abroad trip to Greece and Turkey in October a great experience. No other '25ers along. Tom Carpenter makes some progress but very slow. He would appreciate, I think, a card, which would reach him if sent to 164 Lyons Road, Scarsdale, N. Y. 10583, although he is in a nursing home. He cannot talk but we think he understands and seems to appreciate cards and notes."
Jane Perkins, Lajolla, Calif.: "I have had invitations to visit England and New Zealand, but have turned them down because I'm tired of airports. Guess I've seen too many while Al was writing articles on assignment all over the world. I've got good memories, so southern California I'm happy with. Since you heard from me last I have had a few recognitions that have pleased me. Asked to be in World's Who'sWho in Women, published in Cambridge, England. Honored by the Biographical Institute of Distinguished Americans. Received a plaque of Who's Who in the West. And last but not least, to become a member of the International Platform Association."
Brad Kingman, Durham, N.H.: "Still living on the bay at Durham Point. Missed the Seacoast Alumni Association annual meeting this year for the first time in several years. Enjoyable get-together with Lane and Connie Goss recently."
Addie Moore, Orleans, Mass.: "I am in the third year since Charley died. Whenever he spoke of our children he called them 'our dividends.' I'm very well, I'm grateful to say. I have two grandchildren at Dartmouth Timothy Geithner, who will graduate this year, and Sarah Geithner, who is a freshman; perhaps more to come."
Bob MacCready, Jaffrey, N.H.: "We are enjoying retirement in the beautiful Mt. Monadnock area and like it so much. On April 30, 1982, our first grandchild, a boy, was born. Best wishes to all the class."
Jock Packard, Vero Beach, Fla.: "Still holding on, still have my marbles. Enjoy life, no violent exercise, walk a mile every afternoon, have two for dinner. See a few classmates and other Dartmouth men every winter."
Theodora Tower, Pocasset, Mass.: "The summer of 1982 filled with visiting a daughter with husband and two children in July; August at home with another daughter and two of her sons and their friends; to Maine for Xmas; to Florida January 6 to March 20."
Pete (William G. Jr.) Barker, Greenwich, Conn.: "In.the recent "In Memoriam" booklet issued by the College, the first three names Nathan Church, 1784; Valentine S. Little, 1811; and Augustine V. Barker, 1872 are all ancestors of Bill Barker '25."
