Bill White reports from Grand Blanc, Mich., that he has a daughter at Smith and a son in diapers. He said, "I do not see many Dartmouth folks in Flint, Mich., where I am president of the Mott Foundation. However, I did see Dave Lawrence not too long ago."
Two of our classmates have been giving their time and effort by serving as members of the Alumni Council, the body which represents alumni interests and assists alumni in their efforts to serve the College. These include Charles Parsons from Syracuse, N.Y., who represents the middle Atlantic region, and JimSwanson from Denver, Colo., the southwestern region. Thanks for keeping our interests in mind!
Harry Washburn taught a marketing management course at Harvard University in the Graduate Study Extension Program last autumn. Harry, who holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, previously taught marketing courses at Boston University and Digital Equipment Corporation. In comments to the press, he noted that "it's a stimulating new challenge to teach a Harvard graduate-level course, particularly as a number of my students are from non-business backgrounds and many have master's degrees in their own specialties." Harry's full-time occupation involves chairing Wallace and Washburn Inc., a Boston-based marketing research firm, and being a principal of Dequid Associates Inc., a management consulting firm specializing in energy and high technology clients. Harry continues to play his baritone sax at jazz jam sessions around Boston, including a monthly "Jazz at Noon" session which he has organized for the past six years.
Bob Foot, special agent for the Prudential Insurance Company, residing in Boynton Beach, Fla., has been elected president of the Greater Boynton Beach Chamber of Commerce. In a note, Bob said, "I left the increasingly constrained career in banking to enjoy the satisfaction of helping Palm Beach County with personal financial planning and like it very much. Driving to an appointment last week, I caught our Dave Viscott on the local news station 'talk radio' show. Calling in later, I found Dave was in Los Angeles working with emotionally upset listeners by satellite communication. Another evidence of a small world! My good wife Ginny, who operates a do-it- yourself framing shop, was founder this year of Business Executives of South Palm Beach County Inc., a group which usually complements the Chamber's work but would compete with the Chamber in some functions if cool heads didn't prevail."
