The good news reached us in January that two '28 grandchildren were accepted to enter Dartmouth in September under the College's early decision plan. They are Carolyn Salsgiver of West Acton, Mass., granddaughter of Craig and Eleanor Haines, and Brian Fusonie of Greenfield, Mass., grandson of the late A1 Fusonie, who died in 1982, and his wife Fay. Carolyn is the daughter of Carol Haines Salsgiver, a graduate of the University of Colorado. Brian is the son of Doug Fusonie '58, a Greenfield surgeon.

Fay lives in Pompano Beach, Fla., and has a full-time job working with the church counselor at the 10,000-member Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Ft. Lauderdale.

The class is saddened by the death of five members in two months. The obituaries of Rappie Bavier and Warren Burding appeared in the last issue, but the news of the deaths of Ernie Bessette, Jack Rose, and WesSmith came too late for inclusion there. Obituaries will be in this or the next issue.

Topper Robinson sat with Tim Paige at a recent monthly meeting of the Cape Cod Dartmouth Club. Topper wrote that he was very fond of Ernie Bessette and that Ernie's boxing championships reminded him that he, Topper, needed an extra round and some luck to get by Rube Rubin, and that the late Rocky Keith, best known as captain of the track team, was also a good boxer.

Vic and Mary Hartjens have been spending the winter in Delray Beach, Fla., and will return in April to Alexandria, Va. Vic sent us a long article from the Miami Herald about George Boughton's Colony Hotel in Delray Beach and the Colony Hotel in Kennebunkport, Maine, which have been in the family since 1935.

George Davis wrote in February from Naples, Fla., that the Mortons and Chicks are in Naples, the Cutlers in Sanibel, and the Kleins, Solises, and Woods in Sarasota. They hope to meet in February for a large gathering run by the Dartmouth Club of Southwest Florida.

Lane and Betty Dwinell left in January for a cruise around South America and will return in March.

Jack and Cornie Herpel went out to spend a weekend to visit their son Jay '59 in Los Angeles, where he had come on a business trip from his home in Singapore. They also had a 50th anniversary coming up, so they called the Sasses to invite them to a quiet little celebration. Jack wrote, "Even knowing Jerry and Rachel, you will find it hard to believe the rest of the story. They were on their way to Mauna Kea in Hawaii and invited us to join them at this fabulous hotel for five days with all expenses paid! What a 50th!"

The Herpels were in the L.A. airport waiting for a plane to Hawaii when Cornie spotted Mona Westhaver waiting for a different flight. It was in October and Mona had been spending the summer in Worcester, Mass., visiting her mother, who is over 100, and also attending our 55th reunion. One more travel note: The Herpels just got home in January from another buying trip in England.

The '28 class officers are expected to have 100 percent attendance at the College's Class Officers Weekend in Hanover May 4 and 5. President Rick Rickenbaugh has urged all members of the executive committee to attend an afternoon meeting on May 4.
