Larry Leavitt and Dot attended Vermont Academy in June for the 50th reunion of the first class which graduated when Larry was headmaster. Eleven members of the class and three of the original faculty were back. Mark Emerson, who was on Larry's first faculty, had planned to be there but missed it, as he did our reunion, due to a temporary setback. He claims to be all right now. NateBugbee and Dorie have moved from Newton and are now in North Hill, 865 Central Avenue, Needham, Mass. Patty Sullivan, widow of Ken Sullivan, has moved into a perpetual care apartment in Bloomfield, Conn.
Among 1925 grandchildren winning honors are: Stephen Chase (Steve Chase),magna cum laude; Charlotte Hart (TwistElmquist), cum laude, highest honor in her major (Asian studies); Thomas Hennessey (Ed Hennessey), cum laude; Jennifer Archibald (Doug Archibald), honors in major (French) and recipient of Harvey Price (French). Both holders of Borwell Scholarships, Joseph Tascano was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and Maria Mauseri graduated Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude.Pete Haffenreffer, our class president, had a nice letter from President McLaughlin praising us as "an enthusiastic and wonderfully generous class to whom all of us are most grateful."
A note from Gin, widow of DavidBurner, says they had hoped to make reunion before their series of illnesses descended upon them. She salutes us all and says she has always claimed to be Dartmouth '25 as well as Vassar. Mary Antrim, widow of Joel Antrim, writing from Missoula, Mont., regrets that although Joel always wanted to show her Dartmouth, they never were able to make it. She enjoyed his enthusiasm in sending boys to Dartmouth and was so proud that they were doing so well when they graduated. Their son Joel Jr. is a radio announcer in San Francisco.
Barrett Lyon spent most of his life in public welfare administration and then, after retirement, took up teaching at the University of Michigan. He suffered a stroke a year ago but has improved; he threw away his cane before returning to reunion in June. Betty, widow of PhilMolloy, and daughter Janet made it back to reunion all the way from Texas. RalphThompson's widow, Connie, did a great job getting widows of classmates back to reunion. Hal Stevens and Carol are moving from Lebanon to Carleton Village, a health-care home in Bedford, Mass., but will continue to spend their winters at their place in Arizona. Their son, John, after Trinity and Wharton School of Business and the Chemical Bank for seven
years, is now settled in Fairfield, Conn., with his wife, Gretchen. Their daughter, Caroline, a teacher and editor with D.C. Heath, married an engineer with General Electric, spent half a year in Tokyo, then moved with her husband1 to Sydney, Australia, where they will be until 1986. Their younger son, Robert '73, got his law degree at University of Utah and is now practicing in Salt Lake City, is married, and has a daughter, Julie. Each of the Steven's children has a daughter; they seem to go in for granddaughters. Timothy F. Geithner '83, grandson of Charlie Moore, was married recently to Carole Sonnenfeld '83. Tim's sister, Sarah, is in the class of '86, and his cousins are Charles Moore IV '87 and Chris '88.
Thought for the month: The simplest of toys, one that the youngest child can operate, is called a "grandparent."
