The big news this month is that Don Perkins, bless his soul, has volunteered to take over the newsletter. Don wrote to me from Berkeley this week. Unfortunately, he sent no additional news. He will soon realize that when we write to the class secretary we MUST send news.

Melanie Graves Rios writes from Arlington, Va., where she lives with her husband, Michael, in what she calls an "urban village."

She and her husband both took the name Rios when they married. They share their money and property with the other members of their community. The income of the community, including the proceeds of a $4-million computer company, go into a single community account to be distributed. Melanie included an interesting article about her group from the October 30, 1983, WashingtonPost. Melanie also teaches at Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C. She helps students and teachers learn to use computers for writing, science, programming, and so forth. She manages to walk to and from work through a wood which has deer and fox.

Sharon Cowan writes to find out where Grant Moran is. She has some urgent questions for him, like whether he saw Susan Sontag's directoral debut in Boston with Jacquesand His Master.

Charles H. Allison Jr. graduated from Harvard Business School in June 1984. He says he is chief class agent for his class but does not indicate whether that is the Harvard or Dartmouth class. He has joined the corporate finance department at Merrill Lynch Capital Markets in New York but expects to be assigned to Los Angeles for .the next four to six months. He is looking for Tim Harrison. Tim, would you call Charles at 213/305-8183?

Thomas W. Grzebien Jr. writes that his son, Thomas W. Grzebien 111, is currently in Brussels, Belgium, on a Fulbright grant at L'Universite Catholique de Louvain, Louvain-laNeuve. He is researching his Ph.D. dissertation for the University of Notre Dame. If you should be in Brussels, the number is 3216-22-9385.

William (Bill) Petit Jr. will leave his internship at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.Y., for Yale and a three-year fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism. He is also planning on getting married on April 13 in Meadville, Penn., to Jennifer Lynn Hawke (Penn State '79). Jennifer is a pediatric/ gynecology nurse. Bob "Buck" Kelly (Alpha Chi Alpha) and Fred "Dr. Muff" Seligson (Phi Delta Alpha) will be in the wedding party. Fred spent six months in San Francisco in EDI trauma surgery rotation. (I apologize if I am getting some of this wrong. Bill is developing a doctor's handwriting.) Bill also forsees wedding bells for Fred, along with Sandy Emery and Tom Sullebarger '79. Bill also reports that Tayloe Holton has been helping out with interviewing prospective students.

Brooks Clark has seen more '78s in the Time & Life building. Jennifer Jarvis works in Life circulation. Cindy Hutton is a reporter at Fortune. Brooks still works at Sports Illustrated, along with John Harvey, who is a sales promotion writer, and Alvaro Saralegui, who is an ad salesman. Jeff Krolik, HBO affiliate relations, just moved into HBO's new building, which is just down the road a piece. (For those of you who are not familiar with New York City, the Time & Life building is located in midtown on Sixth Avenue, also known as Avenue of the Americas.)

Jeff Krolik also wrote for himself that he is engaged to marry Christine McCrea on June 15 in Glenside, Pa. Peter Endicott will be an usher.

Randy Schwartz is now teaching mathematics full time at a suburban community college (whose name is not specified). He has recently been best man at the wedding of his twin, Ricky (Cornell '78); attended his tenyear high school reunion; run his first two marathons, both in Detroit; and taken up poetry more seriously. He continues to be active in the Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP). On May 1, 1984, it joined with similar groups worldwide to form the Revolutionary Internationalist Movement (RIM), in order to oppose imperialism and world war with worldwide revolution. One group, the Communist Party of Peru, is already fielding guerrilla forces (the Sendero Luminoso), which apparently now control a good chunk of that nation's countryside. Randy would like to hear from classmates about what they think of the international situation. (He is very kindly suggesting that this might encourage some of you to write to the newsletter with your news. PLEASE DO.)

Tim McNamara has been working as a project planner for an environmental engineering firm in Montpelier, Vt., for the past year, after leaving the family business. He says, "Makes me feel particularly old to hear about all of these new marriages and newborns. I'm going on six years and my son turns four in June."
