I have word of some interesting news this month. Our class had two participants in the First Annual Varsity vs. Alumni Swim Meet held at the Karl B. Michael Pool at Dartmouth. The alumni won the meet, 138 to 104. Handicaps were computed based on the number of years since graduation. Our class was represented by Mike Brown and DaveJohnson. It appears that Dave finished first in the freestyle and butterfly and that Mike, for his part, finished first in the diving contests.

Duncan Wood has been appointed vice president of the water quality group in the environmental division of Anderson-Ni-chols. Anderson-Nichols is a firm of architects, engineers, and environmental consultants. Duncan is currently directing a number of design projects for the Boston Metropolitan District Commission and solid waste disposal investigations for the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Management. He is also involved in a number of hydrologic and lake protection studies. After Dartmouth undergraduate work, Duncan went on to Thayer and then obtained a master's degree in civil engineering from M.I.T. and a master's degree in business administration from Northeastern.

John Larson has been named the vice president of the Konover Development Company of West Hartford, Conn. Konover Development is a division of one of the largest shopping center developers in the nation. John is responsible for overseeing the development of shopping centers from site selection to financing and tenant selection. He has also worked for Konover, developing hotel projects as well in the Northeast. John holds a master's degree from Trinity and was formerly director of marketing for a building concern and executive director of a nonprofit development corporation.

In the legal profession, Josh Fitzhugh became a partner in the firm where he has been working, Sheehey, Brue, and Gray. The firm is located in Burlington, Vt. Ernie Babcock, for his part, formerly a partner in the firm of Pierce, Atwood, Scribner, Allen, Smith, and Lancaster, has now formed a new partnership with Harold J. Friedman, known as Friedman and Babcock. The firm is located in Portland, Maine.

John Kirkland has been named director of acquisitions for the Pillsbury Company. He is responsible for providing acquisition support for Pillsbury's food group. Most recently, he was director of acquisitions and divestitures at Castle and Cooke in San Francisco. Formerly, he was with Land O'Lakes and General Mills. John holds a degree from Tuck, obtained after his graduation from Dartmouth.

On March 15 we had an executive committee meeting in Boston. Thanks to the generosity of Tom Peisch, we were able to use a conference room in the offices of his firm, Burns and Levinson, which has very attractive offices at a new building, 50 Milk Street. Wayne Osmond, Joe Avallone, Gary Brooks,Thorne Butler, Pete Geary, and Mike Rubens were all able to attend. Among the topics of discussion were current activities at Dartmouth: the question of the recent performance of Dartmouth athletic teams, the Alumni Fund drive, and our upcoming reunion in June 1986. Afterwards, I was able to join Thorne Butler and Denis O'Neill for a beer. Denis filled me in on a number of classmates who are actively involved in film and photographic endeavors. I understood from Denis that Jim Nachtwey has just recently won the Robert Capa Medal and that this is the first time that anyone has ever won this award twice. Denis also provided me with the news which follows about Roy Carlson,Chris Chesser, and John Lugar, which he thought I could entitle "Hollywood Hot Tub Notes." Seriously, I think it's great that a number of us are now in creative fields.

Roy Carlson, his wife, Angela, and son, Hugh, two years old, are living in Torrance, Calif. As of this writing Roy and Angela are expecting a new addition to the family. Roy works for Hughes Aircraft as a writer, and I understand that he has one feature film which is to be distributed and another one in development. I was told that Chris Chesser acted as producer for Roy's film and that he is involved with a second film made in association with Michael Phillips '65, who I understood produced The Sting. In addition, John Lugar is producing special effects for a production house in Hollywood. Denis himself was recently out in Hollywood, discussing with studio executives a romantic comedy which he has written. Denis is doing writing for short stories and films and has an agent at the William Morris Agency. Denis can be reached in Brookline, Mass.

By the time this column appears in print, the Alumni Fund drive will be in full swing. Please participate. Steve Leary and all of our classmates who are acting as agents are trying to. build on last year's improved giving.
